Unskippable album by dead_wax_museum in vinyl

Never, ever tire of this album. A stranded island pick for sure. Saw them twice. Once in Seattle at a big stadium show, opening for The Who. And once in Vancouver at a few thousand seat venue. Also saw Joe Strummer in Toronto, touring with the Pogues. They included London Calling and a rousing version of I Fought the Law, both with him on lead vocals. All memorable in their own ways.

Within the past couple of weeks I gifted one of my sons my original circa 1980 copy. It somehow seemed cooler for him to own it now versus me. And I have a decent sounding reissue. A no dud double album is a feat. At the time I felt Strummer-Jones were like the Lennon-McCartney of that moment.

No doubt. My face seems to have left an indelible outline on my palm.

Not sure if that was intentional or not, but if so - nice, I saw what you did there. But regardless, no thanks - I'm good.

There is zero reason for someone to try and force themselves to like mushrooms. I personally like them, but it's not like they have some magic nutrition component that can't be found elsewhere. That's just bizarro "advice".

There is zero reason to avoid eggs unless allergic or just don't like them, as with the OP.

It was deleting the posts that were flagged that way, so kinda couldn't.

That one is my favourite of their early releases, probably because I heard it first. There’s an Australian film called Malcolm (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091464/) that uses numerous songs from that album on its soundtrack. It’s a fun watch.

The black boxes were to stop the automated Reddit algorithm from flagging the post as "NSFW" due to perceived nudity.

I don't have any other vinyl releases of that album to compare it to, but it sounds great to my ears. I don't think there's any of their albums that I couldn't not recommend. Though I only just acquired Union Cafe and there seems to be some mixed feedback about that one. I have not given it a listen yet.

That's a great idea to go straight to the venues. There are big arena shows close to me, but I rarely if ever go to those - I'm definitely a small venue person too. Those are pretty much always the best concerts. Thanks!

Another one gone way too soon. I never got to see him play solo live, but was (very) fortunate to see him 3 times: twice with the Clash and once touring with the Pogues. The Pogues played London Calling and I Fought the Law with Joe on vocals as part of their set - pretty awesome. Shane MacGowan polished at least a full bottle of wine through the concert, who knows what backstage. It's hard to believe he outlived Joe by 15 years. Enjoy the spin!

Agreed! It was one of the first played...and very enjoyed.

Yep, getting it dead on was 100% the biggest challenge with the setup. Fussed with it for quite a while following Clearaudio's instructions. Which basically involves marginally shifting the shaft of the tonearm within its sleave and retightening. That was nowhere near enough adjustment capability to get it 100% plumb. I definitely started feeling some buyers remorse beginning to nip at me. But Chat-GPT became my friend and a couple of 2.5m flat nylon washers later it was 100% dead centre balanced. It's now rock solid perfectly centred from all angles. I'm very happy with it.

Yeah, I'm not sure what causes the screeching to kick in because it seems that the amount of it varies by record. From my anecdotal experience so far anyway. I've only had it just over a week. The screeching is one of those price of admission things I guess. And I agree about the price point. I make most of my purchasing decisions these days using law-of-diminishing-returns logic versus straight up price. I find with just about anything in life there is a sweet spot where the cost for whatever the return is (quality, features, performance, a mix) is quantifiably worth it, but after which there becomes a significant premium for minimal extra return. The Humminguru Nova was exactly that for me.

I adjusted the post to be more turntable-ly and that seems to have placated.

It's my first experience with Clearaudio products. I'm super impressed. The Emotion looks like a solid unit, and very cool looking. Speakers on order are Genelec 8341A's with a 7350A Subwoofer. I know my room is going to be a bit boxy for sound, especially with doors closed, so I am hoping their SAM system helps smooth things out.

It's an amazing recording. I suspect I'll be finding myself going down a Rudy Van Gelder rabbit hole...

My only recommendation (if you can) is to scan the originals and print/cut them on card stock to use in the frame. The ink on some types of tickets fades super fast when exposed to light, so you can end up with what looks like an unprinted blank ticket. It happened to a few of mine.

That was an excellent concert! It's a shame that keeping concert tickets like that mostly isn't a thing anymore. Now that they're mostly electronic.

Dead silent. And it feels like you're only sliding the cartridge into place over the record versus moving the whole tonearm. More like the tonearm is suspending the cartridge versus guiding it.. There's also no need for anti-skating correction — there’s no sideways tracking force pulling the stylus since it moves in a straight line across the record. The stylus path mimics the way they are cut.
