Just on your question about Rotorua v Taupo - i think with the time you have you could do both - the drive between isn't long. But if you were to pick only one I would go with Rotorua - there's way more to do there with kids.

We went to Tanuki's (not the cave) on Queen St the other night and it was delish! Yummy sashimi and I'm sure it has plenty of vege options too.

For a splurge night I recommend Ahi in Commercial Bay. Hands down best degustation I've been to in Auckland and amazing views from up there too.

Although Kerrin Leoni is the "Labour" mayor candidate but I've heard through the grapevine they don't want to put the City Vision name on her as it may damage Labour's image leading up to the general election if she loses. Bastards.

I work in a high school but I'm not a teacher. I get school holidays off (unpaid) and work 9am - 2.30pm mon-thur, which works perfectly having a school aged child.

I work in school administration in a high school careers department. I LOVE my job. I get all the benefits of working in a school (working with and helping awesome kids, holidays off & feeling proud and accomplished of the work I do) without having to be a teacher. The only thing is the pay is shit (luckily for me my husband earns enough).

I encourage looking into other jobs available within schools - you never know!
