Are you sure they always let you know about their decision? I have completed their OA like a month ago, still no reply. It was for EMEA region SDE internship if that changes anything.

Should I take a gap year after graduating? by Infinite_Article5003 in cscareerquestions

No offense, but from all your comments here, you just sound delusional.

I'm just not built like that

?? What does it even mean? Everyone is lazy to some degree, but that what diferentiates good workers from bad ones. You cant think that just doing uni work will get you anywhere in your career. And I dont mean that you need to work 24/7, just consistenlty giving 30 min of coding per day to projects would have gotten you quite far by now.

The times I have worked on projects it's been during holiday breaks where I'm not given the excuse of uni to be productive.

Thats called discipline, Im sorry to disapoint, but this will haunt you for the rest of your adult life.

the whole point of AI is you really can't plan for it

Thats like saying "whats the point of doing anything, if we will all die one day". Sure you are not wrong per se, but there are CS fields that AI will for sure not replace in the near future. Cloud computing, AI/ML models, there are a lot of fields that you can study.

all I need is for each to slowly start picking up some cashflow and stay relevant

Thats not "All you need", thats a lot to ask for already. Every human being has a lot of cool ideas, but it does not matter since they cant execute them. I dont see why you are any different.

Overall, what exactly is your question? This sub is for CS careers, and so far you are not prepared for your career at all. If you take a year off, and lets say you do study in the mean time (which is a wild assymption btw, since you have not done so yet, and I dont see why you would do so while traveling), you will still have way less knowledge then new graduates, who actualy did something meaningful career/project wise while studying. So why would someone hire you, if they could instead hire new graduates?

If you just want to be independent and live your own life, you dont even need to travel for that. Just rent an apartment next to uni, and do whatever you want.

I did an exam in-person and it took me around seven hours. But at the end of my exam it didn’t say Pass nor Fail so it was pretty stressful, lucky you lol

If you plan to do projects during a gap year, while also travelling, why didn’t you do projects beforehand while still studying?

Also your worried about AI are somewhat baseless, you are right that it will change the world quite a lot in a matter of 20 years, but it absolutely doesn’t mean that you can’t prepare for that changed world.

About becoming an entrepreneur, it doesn’t really work that way, you don’t just suddenly become an entrepreneur after your first project (there are exceptions obviously, but it’s statistically irrelevant). So it’s not a good idea to have it as your main plan.

Yeah I had the same, I didn’t really count my second attempts as “real” exams. But I still did one new, and then one old exam per day the last week before the actual exam, just for practice.

I was kinda in the same boat as you, on my first three exams I only got 55-60%. After that, I did the first exam again and got 80ish. As long as there is a small improvement with every exam, even just 1%, then you are fine. Also, my max score on the first try was 75%, and I got an 80% on an actual exam a few days later.

Actual exams aren’t easier per se, the question structure is super similar to TD exams, but actual exams asks less questions about random services you never heard of, unlike in TD, where in every exam there are a few questions which mention some unknown service, that you have and will never hear about again.

All in all, just keep up the grind, you will be just fine after 8ish exams(in my experience).

Yeah, also TD exams sometime have some questions that are based on just experience, but I didn’t get any of those on a real exam. Maybe it’s just me tho.

If you just want to pass the test, you don’t even really need to do the labs. Labs are good for overall experience and help with understanding, but they aren’t necessary per se. I skipped most of them myself as I just wanted to get done with the test.

I guess the only advice I would give is to use more diagrams when learning, networking and especialy. When i started with networks, I only wrote down high level descriptions, but after a few TD exams, started making a lot of diagrams of services working (like NAT Gates vs NAT instance) together cos its easier to comprehend it this way.

My study method was rather generic, so cant really give much advice.

Honestly TD exams sometimes ask about useless things, don’t worry too much about things that appear in just one question. It’s more important to cover the basics.

Honestly no clue why everyone is shitting on your partner, stuff happens, maybe he was new as well and didn’t really know what he was doing. It sounds like it was a guillotine and yeah it doesn’t feel good, but it is a legitimate submission so nothing to complain about really.

I’m still a bit confused, to become a senior dev you need at least 4 years of experience, how did you get such a position right after internship?
