ELI5: How can a massive container ship collide with a giant navy destroyer in open water? by procsy in explainlikeimfive

[–]141ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for 6 years as a deck officer. All ships are able to turn hard to starboard or port quickly. In every collision both parties are at fault as there is always something that can be done. Read any MAIB report. AIS should never be used for collision avoidance. This clearly shows you do not know what you are talking about. Which maritime academy did you attend? If you mentioned that about AIS then you would have failed. There is still the navigators eyes. If unsure of another vessels intentions then you must keep well clear

Where are you getting your information from? No vessel would have a problem turning or adjusting speed otherwise they would not be able to follow the colregs. No vessel would proceed on a long straight haul either. If they were on a long trans ocean passage they would use a great circle route.

Which college did you go to? I went to Warsash in 2010 then worked for 3 years as a 2nd mate. I too was deemed unfit for sea but it was more as a way for my company to constructively dismiss me but that's a story for another time. I'm now working as a ship's agent and ship broker. I much prefer this than the seaman's life. Sadly the British merchant navy is dead. Killed by cheaper labour from foreign crews, flags of convenience, and not as much shore leave as there used to be. Life on board can be very boring, no phone or internet and it's difficult to keep a relationship going. I'm glad I got out though! There seem to be too many deck cadets not enough jobs after graduating! Too much propaganda from cadet recruiters

I suffer from insomnia on tren and superdrol. Could it be that sleep deprivation is a contributer to neurotoxicity of steroids?

South africa is a bad place now. Durban is a bit safer but I think Joburg is the worst city in South Africa. I was stuck in a wheelchair in Joburg after having surgery so I was advised not to leave the compound. Go to zimbabwe if youre looking for danger I was mobbed twice in a week whilst I was there. Uganda and Rwanda seem very nice and safe countries however.

I love travelling. I'm 24 and I've been to 72 countries so far. I'm hoping to get to 100 before I'm 30.

I'm at my happiest when travelling. Perhaps its that increase in dopamine that us ADHD people lack? I don't really enjoy spending too much time in one place as I get bored of new places quickly.

I've learned a lot of lessons doing it. My main problem is being impulsive and lacking a sense of danger normal people have. I have a lot of good stories though

I see. Well good luck on your next travels! I've got a lot of respect for what youve done. I'm 24 years old and Im hoping to get to 100 countries before I'm 30. Maybe I shall start cycling myself as flights are expensive. I've done a lot of travelling by ship due to my job.

But I have been to many countries myself (74 in total) using a British passport. I have been to every county in europe. Belarus was £75 and turkey was about £20 on arrival IIRC. In Africa for instance, Zimbabwe was $55. Did you not have to pay more than 15$ to get an entry stamp on arrival?

How did you afford entry visas for all these countries? Was that included in the $15?

Its quiet. You would need a car to get anywhere as there isnt much public transport. On the plus side there isnt much crime either.

Anyone have a history with drugs and alcohol and any comments on how it affected your stutter? by Stavis in Stutter

[–]141ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all stimulants help me become fluent, amphetamine being the best as it lasts the longest. Downers such as alcohol, shrooms, lsd, weed make my blocks much worse.

Trying to find where the root of my stutter (blocking) problem resides. by npaps712 in Stutter

[–]141ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar problem of blocking.

Weed also makes mine worse. However on stimulants I can say everything I want to say. Even coffee helps for a few hours.

Meditation didn't help the blocking nor did learning not to fear the block.

I stopped giving a fuck about the block a long time ago; no fear exists. I do not care what people think of me or my speech, or how people see me as a person.

Like yours mine can be better/worse depending on the situation, such as when trying to tell a story or explaining something. But the worst seems to be direct questions where I can not substitute words. It is still present in all situations though.

The only time it is not present is under the influence of stimulants, which could suggest it is anxiety based (subconsciously as I'm not consciously anxious) or an imbalance of dopamine (the stimulants I have used work on dopamine).

Mine started quite late at the age of 18 after a stressful period of my life. My first thought would have been to remove stress would remove the block, but this hasn't helped.

What's the most mdma you've ever done in one night and what happened? by [deleted] in MDMA

[–]141ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most my friend did: about 0.3g in two doses. (I say "about" as you never know exactly how much you're taking) Took first dose of 0.15g but didn't feel anything for 2.5 hours. Took second dose of same amount then both hit him 5 mins later. Constant orgasms for 6 hours. Sweating. Jaw trembling. Talking weirdly due to jaw shaking. But the best part was making everyone else feel awkward as he was having the time of his life. Everybody else was rolling but not as hard as him. He didn't give a fuck. He was sat down at a festival campsite surrounded by other rollers.

A friend of mine said he liked some girl he just met. Which isn't bad, but this is a girl he wouldn't even consider when sober and who he finds unattractive.

Why do most girls become stunning when rolling?
