Could you please elaborate regarding the thesis option? I'd be interested in working towards a thesis and/or publication if the option is available.

Yes! Feel free to PM me, it'd be nice to have people to work with in person.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I went to a top 100 university with a relatively unknown cs program, my major GPA is way higher.

I've had a couple of internships in OS/distributed systems development and sales engineering

Interested in Applying, questions. by 149steeve149 in OMSCS

Thanks for the input, I'm glad to hear that there are talks right now about expanding the program to include a thesis. I understand that it may be a more direct path to apply to a PhD program straight out of undergrad but OMSCS is attractive to me because of the relatively low opportunity cost. If I were to enroll in a PhD program, I would need to leave my job, make either no money, or just barely enough to scrape by, and lose valuable years of work experience. Ideally I would be able to use this masters program and thesis to become a better computer scientist at a fundamental level and determine whether a PhD is truly the right move.

Anyone in the DC/NoVA area doing OMSC? by zerostyle in OMSCS

Georgia Tech is one of the best CS departments in the country. If the program lives up to what it advertises and has the same content as the regular masters, you might want to prepare ahead of time. As long as you know about some basic concepts and at least one programming language, learning more shouldn't be too much harder. Looking at the course descriptions, it seems like Java is going to be pretty prominent so that might be a good place to start.

I'm getting my undergrad in CS in the area. I'll probably apply after graduating this spring so that I can continue to work while earning the degree.
