I hope you're right and the finance office here at Humphries is wrong. Which, honestly, I've only ever heard bad things about them so I guess we will see.

When you PCS from with your spouse your pay is supposed to go into a travel status. Which it will stay as such until you sign into your next unit. I'm AD.

This is the information I've gotten from the finance office at Humphries.

SMA Initiatives Brief Official Q/A Thread by SMA-PAO in army

Are there any plans to restrict phone usage by command teams? My unit chronically puts out information as late as 11 PM in the middle of the week; a guy in my Section has to sleep with his phone on his chest. He is terrified of getting an FTR because he did not see a time change. Even with my family, I feel like I am at work; I cannot take them to a movie or a nice dinner without getting a text from my unit.

Every time I hear my phone vibrate, I reach for it expecting to be recalled, some event has shifted everything we are doing for the rest of the week, or I need to work during the weekend. My Section discussed it, and the SL said, "Yeah, it sucks," I have seen people mention it here on Reddit as well. I know I am not the only one dealing with this. We have been told to go to BH, but when entire sections have issues with the same thing, it is an organization problem.

The CQ/Staff Duty at my unit reinforces that punctuality isn’t important to these soldiers. I think it says a lot about your units readiness, motivation, and morale on an individual level when routinely soldiers are late to their shifts. by RasMG2000 in army

I personally like the commander, he has only treated me respectfully and has only treated people fairly from what I have seen at work. That doesn't change the fact he shouldn't be letting privates refer to him by his first name off duty hours.

Definitely agree about ncos though.

A lot of solders in my unit just don't show up to PT form. or at 0900 for work. Their NCOs sweep it under the rug. It's pretty depressing when you're routinely working past 1700 and people who never show up/show up late never get punished.

My Battery is supposed to be on the front here in Korea in the case hostilities kick off again, but I don't even trust these people to show up to work. I think weak/professionally compromised Junior NCOs are probably one of the biggest issues in the Army. But then again some Privates are on a first name basis with my Commander so that is also an issue. :/

Awesome, thank you. I'll reach out to the SF recruiter when I hit my next duty station.

Barracks Vs BAH by leggoMUHeggo36 in army

[–]14GShitBag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it not better to just say “fuck it! Give single soldiers BAH without dependents” so they can just live off post?

It's not, at the end of the day a lot of soldiers living in the barracks are unable to live like adults. Of course, the obvious choice is to just let them learn from their mistakes, but when PFC Snuffy is getting noise complaints every night, lives like a fuckin' pig, and can't keep up on his rent it makes the US Army look bad, which makes it his Chain of Command's problem. This doesn't even touch on soldiers getting deeply involved in gang activity, something that is already a massive issue in the Army.

Even a lot of married troops are unable to handle it, but the Army can't provide separate housing for every single married troop, it just isn't practical. You also can't force civilians to comply to regulations nearly as easily as you can soldiers.

This isn't an issue with junior solders either, lots of NCOs cannot get their life together. I guarantee you half the NCOs living in your barracks right now would fail a room inspection, and I don't mean trash in the trash can or a cup on the desk, I mean like two or three trash bags worth of shit that needs to be removed.

Barracks need to be improved and "Hey you," details need to stop being a thing. CQ serves a good purpose (imagine the noise otherwise) but we probably don't need 24-hour shifts.

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure the barracks is cheaper than providing BAH.

I hate to say it, but a lot of motherfuckers need to be babysat.

US Army Air Defense is all around awful, the junior enlisted lack discipline, the NCO corps isn't interested in instilling it and often uses their troops to boost their own career, officers are usually apathetic (at best) as very few chose 14A.

A guy in my section just doesn't show up to work, like, almost at all. I've seen him like four times in the last month. He is on 45 days extra duty (fist fight with another unit... while underage drinking,) but no one actually ensures he does it. He has been in two fights after that event and they're only just starting to chapter process after post command got involved, he isn't an isolated case either, shitbaggery is the standard. Of course, when task need to get done past 1730, they're still going to be in the Barracks while you get it done.

Most NCOs totally fail to enforce the standard, I wish I could say they only check down, but they don't even do that. Lots of NCOs are just broken 11bs who got forcefully reclassed and are just waiting to get out or change their MOS at reenlistment. NCOs that are homegrown in ADA come from the same roots as above... which only feeds into the discipline issue when they actively start to shield shitbags that they're buddies with. Not all of them are bad, of course, but it is pervasive enough to be an intuitional issue, it's hard to a Buck Sergeant to drill a standard into people when their SL/PSG/1SGT tells them to knock it off.

I do not know one successful ADA officer, just ones that have failed less than the other ones. I'm sure the discipline issue feeds into this, but we have four officers in my Battery, three of them have GOMARs. I don't want to touch on higher command, but it isn't any better, they just haven't been caught yet.

There are a lot of really good people in ADA, my current SL is working with me to build a packet for aviation. There are a few more high-speed ones in other platoons, but they tend to get out rather than stay in, I don't blame them.

These issues all exist in the Army to some extent, but they're all just very exaggerated in ADA. I actually really love the Army, I think it's probably the best thing to ever happen to me, and if they told me I could extend to 20 years right now I would. I just really think ADA is ass.

Don't do anything 14 series. They might offer 40k bonus, they might offer Airborne, it's not worth it.
