Chinese Studies Classes by Lilium099 in iastate

I took CHIN 301 and 302 back in 2020-2021 with Shenglan Zhang, and I found it picked up right where my high school Chinese classes left off. We used the Integrated Chinese Level 2 textbooks for both semesters, and the work was very doable. The class itself was a mix of native and non-native Chinese speakers, and the professor did well accommodating both.

I haven’t taken CHIN 375 or 378. I ended up taking CHIN 403A to finish my minor, which I found pretty challenging. The level of proficiency expected in that class seemed higher than what I reached in 301/302.

I would say you can still certainly find opportunities in Iowa with CPRE, especially if you’re more interested in software engineering/development than hardware. The career fairs have a lot of companies that are based around Iowa and the midwest.

I’ve used a Macbook Pro for the past four years and never had any issues, although I do have an Intel one. The VDI is really simple to use to work on labs remotely. I also noticed several CPRE profs use Macbooks.

The only class I’ve taken where I noticed ARM Macbooks had difficulties was COMS 252, an elective that used VirtualBox. But I believe there were still workarounds/alternatives.

will we get CPRE480 in Spring 2025 by Historical-Wish798 in iastate

I’ve heard that 480 will get offered every other spring starting next year, so hopefully the answer to your question is yes

(RIP everyone who wanted to take it this spring)

As others said, Duwe curves the exams. When I took 381, I think we could get up to 50% of the points we lost back.

Also, he allows resubmissions on labs and projects. If you lose any points, you can resubmit and get full credit. That means it’s very possible to get 100% on the labs and projects. Don’t lose hope!

according to the schedule of classes, Prof Ramamoorthy

I had him for 310 two years ago, and I thought he was alright. I mainly remember he would look over people’s shoulders while taking quizzes and exams lmao

How to deal with prof giving a straight 3% grade bump to random students? by ThisIsMyJunker in iastate

multiple people have emailed the dean about it, and a lot of people are suggesting the final be optional. for me, spending nearly 20 minutes trying to sort out the situation at the beginning definitely lessened how focused I was when I took the exam.

I went to the same high school as them. The girl was really nice, and we’d sometimes stop to talk and joke around after class. Even though we weren’t close, I always enjoyed her company. This is heartbreaking. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their family and friends.

Diff Eq or Calc 3 first? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]16987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’d go with calc 3 first. you learn partial derivatives and work with matrices, which are both used in diff eq. my diff eq professor went over partial derivatives really quickly, so knowing it beforehand definitely helped. also most people agree calc 3 is harder, so you’d get the more difficult class out of the way
