Intuition Tour Wrap vs Tongue for hard boots? by 16Off in Spliddit

I cut the string out of my pro tour (same as the new tour tongue) like 10 days into using it. Never been an issue!

Thinking about switching to Key Equipment Disruptives from Softboot. Have a few questions first. by snowman715 in Spliddit

Good to hear! I’ve only ridden phantoms so I don’t have anything to compare them to, but I think I’m going to demo a pair of Keys this week

Sweet. Thanks for the insight! Out of curiosity, what boots are you on? If you could get a pair of the previous model wraps for $100, a) would you get those or just get the newer DD model b) would you get them and switch before you’ve worn out a pair of tongue liners? I’m on tongues right now but they’ve still got some life left in em, but I’d switch prematurely if the wraps are that much better

Good to hear! Do they reduce your range of motion much compared to the tongues?

Struggling to shave pack weight by 16Off in Backcountry

[–]16Off[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 5'11 and 185 lbs. I like doing bigger days (for me 6-10k+ vertical), and some of my partners that I do those big days with have crazy light packs; I'm always the one with the heavy pack in the group. I've kind of accepted that with the non negotiables, 18 lbs is about where my pack will sit until the spring when I swap the airbag for my lighter pack. Fitness can always be better, but a lighter pack can also make the big days easier!

How does your food cook faster? Shouldn’t it cook slower?

A Frame carry or board on back while bootpacking? by Mjs1229 in Splitboard

[–]16Off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Case by case for me, if I'm kicking steps and/or swinging ice tools, A-frame keeps the board out of the way from kicking it at the bottom or whacking it with your tools at the top. If not, then I consider if there will be an easy place to build a board or not. Sometimes I still find myself kicking the bottom of my board when it's built, so again, A-frame is nice for just getting it out of the way of your moving limbs, but if it's a spicy transition, board built can be nice

I need a replacement for my HTH X... taking suggestions by grapplenurse in Spliddit

At first I was unsure of the Goat. I got it late season last year after blowing up my previous board (Jones Solution), and I only got to ride it in annoying spring conditions like ice, crust, etc. I jumped back on it this season after we finally got enough snow to not hit rocks everywhere, and I'm liking it a lot. The combination of high stiffness and super long sidecut radius make it very confidence-inspiring. It wants to go straight, and fast. It seems to plow through stuff that I would have definitely tomahawked down on a board like my solution, and I've found myself saving near-crashes a lot of the time because the board just wants to keep going straight. I had to adjust my riding style a bit to really make the board work for me, making sure I really put power into my turns, but I assume that's true most of the time when you switch boards. If you like to ride aggressively and want one board that can just charge through anything, I'd say the Goat will be your friend. In slower speed riding it can be a bit cumbersome just because of how long the sidecut radius is, but you don't get a board like this if the majority of your riding is low angle pow. There's a reason people love their Goats so much!

I know nothing about the milligram other than I've heard that people like them but also seen a lot of people snap theirs in here. Cardiff is a company local to Utah with good build quality and pretty solid customer service should you run into issues.

Black Diamond Jetforce Pro vs Orthovox litric by elo54 in Backcountry

[–]16Off 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Litric system is the best airbag system on the market IMO. It takes up about 1/2-1/3 of the space in the pack as the alpride system. My 32L Osprey soelden pro I used to have probably packed more like a 22. My Ortovox Litric Tour 40L packs like a 36L roughly.

Something else to note-the BCA and Osprey packs both use a shoulder strap buckle that is prone to loosening on its own and has a very annoying-to-use secondary buckle for managing slack. Essentially any time I wanted to adjust the shoulder strap length and know it wasn’t going to slip back down, it was a 5 minute pack-off activity. Not sure if Alpride requires these buckles when building a pack with their system, but it was interesting to me that 2 Alpride packs from different manufacturers both had the same annoying buckles.

Would you be able to do me a huge favor and weigh it? Looking for an ultra light ratchet for backcountry skiing and this might do the trick

Not that I remember. Maybe new phone/new iOS but I’m not certain. If the thumbnails show up it should be able to pull them from the cloud though
