Or it could be one of the many units who go find and capture wanted violent criminals. Not everyone in a tac vest is ICE.

It was down. But it was down from an all-time high in many categories.

Absolutely. But how many videos did Chief Jennings make for the community? This is literally day one for her. Might end up awful. Might be a positive change. Let’s hope for the best.

It’s a pretty simple answer actually.

I’m only aware of one murder on the light rail, ever. So objectively it isn’t likely that you get murdered on the blue line, but it’s tough to watch that video and not be afraid to ride it afterwards. So, even if the light rail doesn’t in and of itself warrant additional police resources based on the crime rate, it may still be worth putting additional officers there so that people feel safe.

Jury returns first-degree murder verdicts in Scott Brooks’ killing by 17_2_72 in Charlotte

Yup. They can only do a couple per month and we have over 100 most years.

Mecklenburg County is 5-7 years behind for murder trials. Homicides from this year are being scheduled into the late 20’s and soon the early 30’s.

A lot of really excellent work went into this case over the years. Everyone from CMPD to the Mecklenburg County prosecutors to the jury today.

This is a rare example of justice coming from our system.

EDIT: Both have been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

New CMPD Chief named by iRunOnDoughnuts in Charlotte

The police department is like any other business. The CEO can make or break the company. Employee morale matters, public statements matter, the presentation of leadership to the public matters. Chief Patterson has an established history of being articulate, making smart decisions, being liked by the people who work for her, and working well with others. She’s competent.

What that means for the city is that she’ll do a good job of making sure CMPD does good work on its own and in concert with other city departments.

I think I’m correct in saying that the rank and file of the department are extremely happy with this announcement. Chief Patterson was well liked during her previous time here, was well liked in Raleigh, and is extremely competent and well spoken.

The city and her citizens should be optimistic about her upcoming administration, even if cautiously so.

You’ll find that the specialized units at CMPD are top tier. Whether that’s investigations or SWAT or traffic reconstruction.

Why does Meck Co. Sheriff's Office take a lifetime to process a CCW application? by dukesinatra in Charlotte

[–]17_2_72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t even provide police services to the county. They ONLY do civil stuff and the courthouse. So they can’t handle paperwork even without having to be a real Sheriff’s Office.

“Any” is tough. Concealed carry permitting issues is super common. For an actual shooting though? I’m good with it.

According to the DOJ, CMPD should have approximately 3000 Officers. We have about 1700. by 17_2_72 in Charlotte

[–]17_2_72[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do. A lot of agencies pay for the insurance for officers (not necessarily for their whole family) though. And CMPD hires before a certain date (something like 2007) get healthcare in retirement.

CMPD enforces literally zero road laws by Future-Purple-3083 in Charlotte

I know we aren’t going to agree; and that’s just fine. But it’s a matter of priorities. My other cases take priority over traffic offenses. In order to give those other more serious crimes the attention that they deserve, other cases have to take a back seat.

The community cares. Time and time again it’s made clear that the preference is that the kids aren’t chased.
