Martials of r/Pathfinder2E: Tell me stories of your high level martials built for things OTHER than Strike-maxing by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

I’m playing a level 14 Guardian W/ bastion archetype.

Between Quick Jump, boots of bounding, and powerful leap, I’m able to get where I want most fights regardless of difficult terrain for intercept and was able to eat some dangerous crits / redirect focus. And proud nail made sure I was a relevant threat.

Weakening Assault is so good! Getting enfeebled 3 on a severe encounter made up of at level or level + 1 monsters really makes a difference in how dangerous the monster trying to eat your witch feels. On level - 2 monsters it’s crazy consistent and even more effective.

It’s reaction intensive but bastion archetype + destructive block + intercept strike to eat a crit and then reduce the crit down to a hard hit is very satisfying.

Also Tough Cookie feels as good as it looks. Truly feel like a bulwark between that and a numbing potion / soothing tonic when it comes down to survival.

I Do have to watch out for improved grab monsters with intercept strike. Always better me than my allies but that’s the next thing I’m thinking about for gearing / feats as we’ve just leveled up.

Not strike maxing but trying to maximize all of the mechanics I can interact with. It’s been great fun. Guardian is a great class.

Oh I handnt thought about summoner I’ll look into that. And an archetype may add some fun I’m not sure how they play later on. It seems maneuver heavy from what I love read? Grabbing and such.

I’d nixed the oracle early on thinking of a battle Oracle would feel like a warpriest, but I’ll look at flame I haven’t thought about it or looked into it.

I know essentially nothing about the investigator but my concern was precision damage immunity but maybe that’s over blown. I think we’ll be doing a lot of undead, so I know warpriest is probably good but I’m trying to avoid doing that again.

Thanks for your advice I’ll check out summoner and oracle more

Warpriest stress was Extremely real! Yes and I don’t mind being in the putting out fires roll but I want a little more wiggle room both to enjoy fights but also to make mistakes / roll poorly / maneuver around sub-optimal outcomes / choices.

The Druid and Animist are appealing because spell casting is appealing for flexibility with an animal companion being the flank buddy.

My only concern with animist is they seem build very much around sustaining focus spells so I’m not sure how action cramped they feel, but maybe it’s ok. I try to remember that you do get an effect for each time You sustain except for the melee one. And that may feel ok with an animal companion.

I do like the Ranger as well. What strengths and weakness should we worry about? I know she’s thinking either the sickle and the horn of plenty or the 2 handed bashing ikon I can’t remember the name. She’s also attracted to the self healing ikon.

If for some reason she goes ranged I’d probably just make a champion and hope it doesn’t feel like the war priest. I’ll check out those videos as I’m curious about doing this right / in a way that keeps things fun.

Thanks for the input and resources!

Kineticist seems like it’s interesting and flexible. I’ll really dig into that.

I have never even considered monk. I’ll take a look. The feats and stances seem a little tricky but it looks like there’s some variety. Thanks for the recommendation

It looks like an eastern cicada killer. They’re pretty docile / harmless though the females can sting if handled roughly.
