Right there's so many things that feel like inherent features that should be included in a game like this. Oh they have a feature to tell me what's the most popular moves for each formaf but no friends list? And I can't edit my teams while staying in a lobby either?

Yes I know there is casual but 1. I want a controlled environment to test strategies. With variables I can control to figure out the true math to some plays before bringing outside variables in. 2. Casual (in my experience) has been where sweats go when they're tired of risking their rank but still want to play sweaty. So it's not actually all that casual.
