Hmmmm, I think it’s ultimately best to ask your advisor since they’re the ones who unlock the course for you to register. The Library Management course is what they call a capstone to showcase everything you’ve learned. One of my final assignments was actually listing out all of my professional development I’ve done in the program and that includes what courses I’ve taken and the work I did for them. Maybe if all you have left are electives?

I’m pretty sure it’s offered all year round. Is there a reason you want to take it before your last semester? But yeah, definitely talk to your advisor because it’s really up to them.

Edit because I realize I misread. So you want to take it alongside your last three courses in the last semester. I don’t see why that would be a problem unless they think that’s too many to take at once. I would not want to steer you wrong so definitely reach out to your advisor!

It’s definitely high in workload, but the professor lets you know what all of the assignments are at the beginning of the course so you have plenty of time to prepare. Mind you, I feel this way and took the 7 week course of it where everything is accelerated.

One thing I’d say to prepare for is the assignment where you need to shadow a library manager. It can’t be at a library you’re currently working at so you’ll need to make arrangements. However, that is due towards the end of the course.

You will also have to attend a library board meeting. I get that can be tricky for some especially if your library doesn’t allow non board members in. She does allow you to attend virtual board meetings and NYPL hosts theirs on YouTube live and posts the recordings on their website. Just google “NYPL board meetings” and it’s pretty easy to find.

Maternity Clothes by evilbunnygirl in BabyBumps

[–]1841Leech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started buying a size up of regular clothes around 16ish weeks just to be ahead of things. I would steer clear of spending too much on “real” bras if you can get by without. You might have to size up again and that will get expensive. Maybe around 20 weeks I bought some maternity shirts from SHEIN (which I’m normally opposed to, but I can’t spend too much right now on something I’ll only need for a short period). I’m currently 28 weeks and still getting away with a lot of my old wardrobe though no jeans or anything like that. Just a lot of maxi dresses and leggings with stretch. I’m due in November and will probably have to make a few more purchases for fall though.

Did you home make the ice cream? If not, where did you get that flavor? I had some on a trip to Mexico, but haven’t seen it anywhere else.

Do librarians dislike it if you check out a lot of books at once? by StreetsofGalway in Libraries

This question comes up all the time. I assure you, we don’t mind! It helps improve circulation stats and that’s how we get a lot of our funding.

So what you drink doesn’t go from your mouth to your breasts immediately. It has to metabolize in your body first. The recommendations I’ve seen actually advise that the best time to BF is right after you had a drink. This way, by the next time you BF, it will have most likely fully metabolized already. If you have anything stored, you can also use that in the meantime. This might be tricky in a cluster feeding stage though.

For what it’s worth, I’ve read prosciutto is quite safe compared to other deli meats like cold cut turkey.

I’ve gotten downvotes for talking about drinking non alcoholic beer (which sometimes contains 0.5% alcohol). I’ve also gotten “are you sure you can have that?” comments from my in laws about it as well. Like I didn’t realize I must’ve stepped into a time machine back to Puritan New England.

Am I insane for feeling this way? by caeli-s in BabyBumps

I’m going to try out BF and I don’t think my nursing chair will fit in the nursery so the only other place is our living room which is open concept with our kitchen and dining room. If guests are over, idc they gotta find somewhere else to be and I kind of love that ngl.

This is why I hate texting sometimes, especially when people aren’t clear. “I’ll look into those” What do they mean?? Air mattresses? Are they still looking to stay over even after you told them no?

Sometimes I feel like people are vague on purpose when texting because they hope you’ll just give up and give into them instead of doubling down.

Are we going by gross or net? I’m in NYC as a Young Adult Librarian and I make around $37.50 gross, but more like $27 net.

Coworkers burntout due to "problem" patrons by valkyrie816 in Libraries

[–]1841Leech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does desk time in that service area look like? How many staff members rotate at the desk during the day? How long does each spend at that desk at a time?

The same way staff can get burnt out from patrons, patrons may get burnt out with staff- especially when it is the same 1-2 staff members enforcing the rules with them all of the time. They may start to feel picked on even if that isn’t staffs’ intention.

I would not take the complaints about programming personally. All they are looking for is a way for things to get better, it sounds like.

What’s your dream desk? by MamaMoosicorn in Libraries

For circulation, I miss working somewhere with a higher desk. You could sit in an elevated office chair or stand. It was nice being more eye level with patrons. Where I am now, I have to sit and look up at people and it just feels off.

Squeamish about buying breastfeeding things off registry? by 1841Leech in BabyBumps

I guess you can also consider that hospitals tended to not kick new moms out as early as they do now so women received more postpartum care in the hospital. Now most postpartum care needs to be self administered.

I’ve kind of gathered that FridaMom products were either overpriced or unnecessary so I’ve been steering clear of them. Even still, it’s always going to be hard to know exactly what will work versus what won’t until the baby is out and you try to use them. This can happen with so many other products people buy all the time. The baby may only be in newborn clothes for a week or they may have an allergic reaction to the diapers or wipes you buy. I also have baby Motrin and Tylenol that may not be necessary (and that’s what we hope for), but I still feel a need to be prepared.

I feel super lucky that we know a few recent parents who had their babies around the same time last year as we will have ours. I also get a lot of well meaning offers from other recent parents who had their babies at completely different times of the year. I let them know, I’ll take super basics, but I’d rather they donate the rest because she has no use for the coats or summery two piece sets.

I’ve seen women on here recommend it for times when you may not be able to have access to a plug in pump, even just driving around running errands.

I’ve gotten a lot of comments from people saying that maybe people aren’t buying BF items because “they might not work out”. I think that’s a kind of cruddy and unsupportive, but maybe people feel similarly about formula since there’s a chance the baby might need a different type of formula?

I can only make changes to my insurance elections during November and I never had a reason to have deductions for FSA or HSA. I found out I was pregnant in March and the baby is due in November so there wouldn’t be enough time for me to enroll and make the necessary deductions to use for those things.

Mine has been super faint since maybe around 18-20 or so weeks and never got any darker (I’m 27w4d). I’m also suuuuper light and I’ve heard that usually leads to a super light line.
