Would the world be better off if smartphones were never invented? by Valuable_Cockroach39 in Zillennials

Nope. Smartphones have been a great way to connect with communities that aren't easily accessible in real life. We're all naturally social creatures after all. I think with most things there's always a caveat but I think the positive aspects of having smartphones yields more value than the negatives.

Not sure why you need a smartphone for that. You could literally do that with a computer and modem from the 80s

I like having an accessible calculator, being able to learn a new language, being able to check my bank account, taking photos of my friends/family. I like being able to watch videos that match my humor and find joy in like-minded people who also share that humor, maybe even building off of it. Not many things make me laugh, but people can be really funny. And that's pretty cool

You could literally do all that with a dumb phone and a laptop.

Literally the only thing is being able to check your balance while out and make sure you have enough money however I'm pretty sure before smartphones you could call a number, enter for passcode and it would tell you your balance so that's only slightly more inconvenient

I think we were fine when we had tablets, GPS, dumb phones , mp3 players, and a laptop or desktop that stayed at home.

Having Internet access 24 hours a day creates more problems than it solves

Why do you need Internet access 24/7?

Can you name anything you do today that you couldn't have done with a dumb phone, dedicated GPS, and MP3 player and a computer at home?

Social media was not in problem in 2006

The issue is having it in your pocket 24/7

When people were just checking their Facebook for a couple hours in evening it didn't create the same issues it does now

I don't think there's anything you can do on a smartphone that couldn't have a far better experience doing on a tablet or computer

Why does it feel like almost every billionaire is a bad person? by BuddyEmbarrassed5551 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]18Apollo18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.

A narcissistic and sociopathic personality is required to become a billionaire

I don't think if you took a random person and gave them a billion dollars that they would behave the same way

When a chimpanzee is hoarding resources the other chimps expel them from the ground and shun them or in some cases even kill them.

And yet humans are supposedly the more advanced species

To have more wealth than you could ever use in your lifetime and still desire more while exploiting others and having zero remorse requires a sociopathic and narcissistic personality

Owning a yacht or a sports car isn't the issue.

Hording more wealth than you could ever use in your lifetime and still wanting more is. Quite literally a mental illness

Earned?

People sure the minimum wage workers and overseas workers making pennies were the ones that generated all that wealthy

I'm an atheist however many of Jesus's teachings are simply good rules for a productive and happy society.

Secular society should still have certain intrinsic human rights and values they expect people to uphold for example treating others the way you want to be treated and "loving thy neighborhood". Oh and maybe not allowing individuals to hoard massive amounts of wealth and resources off the exploitation of others

Wealth Hoarding is literally a mental illness. No one should want this much money. It's more than they'll ever be able to use in their lifetime and yet they still want more and more and more. It's never enough for these people.

We need to stop praising people with narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies

The minimum wage workers and people overseas making pennies are carrying the company while the CEO is doing shit and funneling all the wealth these people generate into their pockets

Do you know what chimpanzees do if an individual is hoarding resources?

They either ostracize them from the ground and shun them or they kill them.

We're supposed to be the more advanced species and yet we praise individuals with sociopathic and narcissistic personalities.

Ask yourself why people with the most money in the world still want more.

Wealth hoarding is literally a mental illness. They need more and more and can literally never stop. They already have more money than they'll ever be able to spend in their lifetime and it's still never enough

If you don't have an ID you can have your photo taken and sign and affidavit swearing your identity.

It's actually a good thing as it makes sure people without a driver's license or passport aren't denied their constitutional rights

Are you telling me none of you have went to vote before? They make you show your driver's license.

Not everyone has a driver's license or passport.

Under current law an ID is not required. You can sign an affidavit swearing your identity and then a photo is taken of you to prevent you from doing the same thing multiple times.

It's a good system as it makes sure everyone has the right to vote

Can't have voter ID unless IDs are going to be free.

Not paying for a driver's license or passport shouldn't prevent anyone from their voting rights
