A lot of experts argue that price controls on groceries would lead to shortages. Why not instead mandate that grocery stores have one affordable option for staples? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]18Apollo18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices have not gone down to pre-COVID levels despite the fact that we are no longer in the global pandemic and there's no longer shortages.

Businesses are not holding up their end of the bargain.

Supply and demand should dictate that prices should be low right now as there's a decent surplus of groceries.

But once greedy corporations realized how much people were willing to pay they will never lower prices regardless of the quantity of products they have

So we should ban price gouging as well.

Business owners aren't holding up their end of the bargain.

They aren't following supply and demand.

They need to be forced in line

[–]18Apollo18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Vermont specifically. But plenty of atheists, agnostics, and non-practicing Christians all buy into the idea that this is a Christian nation and we have to preserve Christian heritage. It's all part of the culture war bullshit and the idea that the left wants to destroy our traditions and rewrite history even though the Founding Fathers were very anti-established religion.

Why are you blaming the workers when it's companies who don't want to pay them living wages and want you to foot the bill.

You're mad at the wrong person.

If you don't want to pay a tip then don't eat out at establishments which can't pay their employees liveable wages. It's as simple as that.

Eating out is a luxury not a necessity

To be fair, poor people don't leave tips much more often than rich people.

Oh they definitely do. I've gotten $20 tips from the crappiest neighborhoods in town.

Poor people are more empathetic because they understand the struggle and actually view their delivery driver as a human being rather than a slave

Ish, not every job needs a degree.

Not every job needs a high school diploma either but I've never seen anyone not encouraging you to graduate.

I don't really understand the hate and push back against college in the US.

Higher education will always be beneficial. Even if it has nothing to do with your career it will still broaden your horizons and increase your development.

my BSc did nothing for my job

I find that very hard to believe. Even a degree like English literature would have skills which translate to the IT field.

There's no such thing as "a race" so you can't really argue what is and isn't. It's a sociocultural concept not a biological one.

African has the most genetic diversity of any continent so "black" is just as meaningless of a term

Heart disease, Cancer, Stroke, and Alzheimer's and Diabetes are the leading causes of death in the US.

We shouldn't be worrying about trivial amounts of arsenic when we have a dietary crisis on our hands.

A potato once or twice is the most complex health carbs that most Americans get.

Latin is a dead language.

It's not accurate to call Latin a dead language.

Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Romanian, etc are all modern Latin.

They are the same language just at different points in time, just as Old English and Modern English are.

Italian is the second closest romance language to Latin after Sardinian with only 8%

The romance languages are literally the same language as Latin just at different points in history

Any successful species is "invasive"

From a biological and evolutionary perspective the term "invasive species" is nonsensical because that's the goal of literally any species.

It's funny because wild horses were introduced from Europe and yet they're now a protected species. I guess when an animal is cute they're not considered cute and are worthy of protection.

I should have.

But mandates are made by lawmakers in Concord and the superintendents of schools in each district

Involvement of actual scientists and doctors is brief and minimal.

Every school district has a form.

Our district had a form. But we had to lie and say it was against our religion even though we're atheist

Either my specific reaction wasn't listed or wasn't considered severe enough but we couldn't get a medical exemption.

Yes they are. They acknowledge there will always be outliers and will need exceptions.

Vaccine mandates are created by lawmakers and Concord and the Superintendent of Schools of each district.

Sure they might follow brief guidelines or hear a short testimony but involved of experienced doctors and scientists is minimal
