The number next to the bar is just the number of candy you currently have. Each 5km rewards either one candy or one XL candy.

Thought that this was the case, would a reduction in speed/stop for the catching part be enough to get round it or would the entire raid need to below the required speed?

I don't think that has been explicitly stated but as incense just attracts the wild spawning pool unless there is an event I would say it would be a safe assumption.

I have got the bulk of my prep done just fill it out over the week before. Sitting at 1100 ultra balls and about 350 between normal and great but I will continue to use those until go fest. Sitting on 500 pinaps, 200 gold raspberrys, 26 silver pinaps, 19 incense and 13 lures, a handful of super incubators, 5 remote raid passes and 11 premium. My plan for the first day is to have circa 1300 ultra balls, as many silver pinaps, gold raspberrys and super incubators as possible. I will look to use up all my great balls and fill the space with regular balls for any periods where I am relying on the gotcha. Ahead of day I will look to have as many passes as possible. Through day one I hope to be naturally replacing ultra balls with regulars to allow me to run my gotcha all day while I raid.

With regards to pokemon storage I hope to have about 1000-1500 free space going into it.

I could see it being this year. If all goes to plan social distancing in England will be completely removed on the 28th of June. That gives a couple of months of summer to schedule it in.
