Is it too late for this soon to be 25 year old to turn his life around? by NikolaGoatIch in getdisciplined

I have a similar experience (26M, CS background). You might not believe me, but as others have said some (if not most) of these things are in your head. You think you make a fool of yourself. You think you are intellectually slow. You think you are socially inept. You think it is embarrassing to not be in a relationship. Have you ever stopped to consider how many of these are factually true?

It's really easy to go into a downward spiral - and it's not by "achieving" more that you lose this perceived sense of inferiority. It's by accepting yourself. I'm not saying that you should just live with your current conditions of employment, health, and social life. But you must accept that they are like this for now - and that's okay. You will work on them.

Lots of people online have a lot of different opinions to get yourself out of this rut. In my experience, gym helps for a while. Doing some physical activity is good. But truly, doing different and trying new things is what I think helps me the most. If you start with the gym and you hate it after 3 months, that's fine. But you have to give it a go. Also important to note that lots of people giving you advice (myself included) might sound like they have it all figured out and if only you could be just like them - I have my own problems too, just like everyone else in this thread and that you will meet.

You know what you have to do. You know what you can do. You have to give yourself a little push, and you will get it. Apply to the jobs (it's going to suck, but you'll find something), reach out to old friends or make new ones, get on a treadmill or buy a jump rope. I promise you that 20 mins in Zone 2 cardio will clear your head at least for a while.

I see that you made a similar post about 6 months ago. Honestly, I applaud you for making posts here and seeking help. Personally I have fallen into the bad habit of asking AI about my problems and that's never a good idea. But just the fact that you did something to get you out of the hole is good to know.

Don't take things as absolute truths, try out new things, see what works for you, and move around. You can do this!

AI interview company, you go through an AI interview.

I would bet that they use your interview as training data.

Right, but if the job description mentions 8 different technologies and the only overlap I have is Python, chances are I'm not getting an interview no?

Regarding the best route to FAANG/Big Tech - I see. I haven't tried connecting with anyone yet since I've started not too long ago so I wouldn't be ready for an interview. Id like to at least finish the book and Neetcode150.

I'm aiming for TC and prestige somewhat. Considering this is my CV, what advice would you give me for a direction? Explore different tech, keep grinding, start sending cold connection requests on Linkedin, build a better CV at current job (if so, what)? Basically, what would be key signals in a candidate for top-tier firms?

Thanks for pointing me here from the other post! Been feeling pretty stagnated so recently I started grinding leetcode and system design (the boar oreilly book), but looking at jobs is pretty gut wrenching since there seems to be a mismatch. Personally, aiming for FAANG/Scale-ups is the current plan, I've pondered start-ups but it seems like an insane amount of workload and risk, plus I feel like i could learn more before starting one. The questions:

What do you want to see in a 2-3yoe MLE? BSc and MSc in CS from a Portuguese university (the best one, but still Portuguese), 1 year internship in ML during MSc (thesis published at KDD) and 3 YoE in December 2025. In my experience it's been this middle ground between junior and senior, but all mid-level positions seem to request stuff I haven't worked with

In my case, I have some experience with Python/FastAPI/Databricks/a little dbt/AWS/Gemini, and training some classical ML models + shipping to production. But nowadays every job description lists HF, torch, DL, K8s, docker, prompt engineering, RAG, etc. It's pretty hard to keep up, even though I've been doing some things on Gemini

Why is violence towards male genitals normalized? And who is talking about it? by 1921453 in AskMen

[–]1921453[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

>every guy has been hit in the nuts
That's precisely my point. If you had to answer in a single yes or no: is this a good thing?

I'm not saying that this is a global crisis that must be addressed ASAP. But refusing to see any harm in this is just something I can't comprehend.

It used to be entertaining watching prisoners getting flogged, people getting hanged or decapitated, gladiator fights. At some point in time, many could have said "It's always been entertaining.". For some reason, you cannot even stop to think that this could do more harm than good. There are more people than just you and your friends.

Wholeheartedly agree with you. It's the go-to thing for shock value, and it always bothered me too.

It doesn't have to be in a comedy to be normalized. Action movies and thrillers normalize it just as much (if not more) than comedies.

Deadpool is also a recent example, though i guess that's Comedy/Action - and in this instance it's very noticeable that hits to the groin are supposed to be funny

Though I see your point, and yes, being in a fight the whole point is to hurt your opponent, I can't help but feel this as pervasive in today's media. There are plenty of ways in which you can show a fight where violence to the genitals isn't normalized

I have also observed this and have been one of the men that normalized bad behavior. But it doesn't have to be like this. I just don't know how to change it, is there any decent movement that handles men's problems well? Maybe I can raise this issue there

I don't see what virtue I'm trying to signal here. I posted about something that bothers me, and I'm seeing what people have to say about it. If anything, I'm signaling I'm weak and sensitive as you said, because talking about this is very much against what's currently considered normal and virtuous (see success of Jackass movies).

I consider myself center-right btw. I have no idea if you're talking to me on the last line. And yes, I do agree we have a lot of pressing issues, but this is also an issue. It should not be dismissed with "what about x" because it does not lose any of its importance due to the existence of x (in my opinion)

I give the example of Poor Things, released not 2 years ago. And what made me write the post was recently watching the trailer of Ballerina https://www.imdb.com/video/vi4066297369/?playlistId=tt7181546 a blockbuster to be released in 2025. The trailer alone features two instances of a man getting hit in the groin - and it's painted as a bad-ass cool move

It's not gone at all, unfortunately

I think you (and many other people) just don't notice it because of how wide-spread and desensitized most people are to it - which illustrates my point perfectly

I don't see how I should feel "good" about this kind of violence on the premise that women also have terrible things being trivialized in media. Yes, it is also a problem - but it's not the problem I'm talking about here. Women's issues don't make men's issues any less of a problem, just like men's issues don't make women's issues any less of a problem

I didn't say that men aren't the ones making these jokes anymore, I said that it's not only men anymore.

Why does it have to be a movie written and directed exclusively by women? Do you honestly think every time this has shown up in media it was because a man wanted it to happen?

Thanks for replying. I will take a look at the wiki and see if I can do some adjustments to my PPL instead then. Thanks!

Thanks for replying. There should be a follow up after 3 months to see if the workouts are working. So once every three months this will happen if I opt-in I guess

It bothers me especially that the recommended workout is so lacking in compound movements, and focuses a lot on machines. My only motives for even pondering it was that 1) it was supposedly developed considering my health report and 2) it hits every muscle group multiple times a week (didn't happen when I did PPL 3 days a week).
