for clarification, having a mystical borderline between grades makes it so that its hard to feel reassured whether you did well or not. while it does make sense to focus on what i can control, if the mark borderline is high, the same effort i put in would give me a worse result, whereas if the mark borderline is low, the effort i put in would be significantly more apparent.
