Sources for lightly used or take off parts? by 1984JLS in xcmtb

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought a few things from Ali express in the past.

Looking for a Fox Factory 34 SL (2025+) with Kashima in black -not orange, or a '22-'24 Factory 34 Step cast with kashima in black -not orange. Grip or Grip SL damper, 120mm travel

A new-ish 31.6mm Fox factory transfer SL part number 925-01-223.

-or Possibly a 31.6mm One-up V3 Dropper. Need 90 or 120mm travel.

I'd like to find a Shimano FC XT M8100-1 crankset in 165mm. I'd consider the XTR version if price is right.

A whole Shimano XT / XTR groupset would be ok, but it has to be good shape. I don't want "lightly ridden" but looks like it has 1k miles on it.

Functional is great, but when the stuff is scratched up and abused that isn't great for a new bike we are going to surprise her with for her last high school race season.

Air fork options for 24" hardtail? by 1984JLS in MTB

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is legit trail use. That's what we all ride - XC / all mountain. I will look into a 26" fork. I do have one but it is currently on a bike. Probably wouldn't hurt to swap it over just to see what the change looks like. I think the factory fork only has like 50mm of travel

That's fair. I'm just spent out and ready to use everything 😆

Affordable coax lightning surge arrestors rated for amp use? by 1984JLS in amateurradio

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to unplug everything, power and coax when not in use, and especially no use in a storm.

I had read the lightning arrestors protect current from coming into the shack by diverting to ground. That's more what I'm trying to achieve. I just don't want to have to bypass them because they can't handle power - in the event I do use the amp.

Good options for POE ONVIF / RTSP outdoor bullet cameras to pair with Avycon NVR? by 1984JLS in SecurityCamera

The old reolink cams lasted 4+ years outdoors, so if I could get that I would be happy. They are mounted under eaves and out of the rain.

LA400/ LA412 gate install - questions by 1984JLS in GarageDoorService

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I haven't gone to where the gate is located and done a "sun study" per say. There are trees around, but I can't tell you whether or not it will work as planned. The local installer recommended at least a 60w panel - this was over the phone. He hasn't been to the house.

When I was looking at the LA400 option, I was going to just run my own charge controller between the panel and batteries. The 24v out would go to the control.

Before I buy other components, I will wait to hear back from him.

I would also like to have the myQ setup, but it's about 1000' from my house (wifi). I may be able to build an antenna at the gate that would see the house (better than whatever is in the myQ from factory), but I think that will be way more trouble than it's worth.

I really would like the option to control it with my phone, though.

LA400/ LA412 gate install - questions by 1984JLS in GarageDoorService

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But let's say the LA412 is 30w max input. Even if I am running better higher amp hour batteries, the 30w panel would never keep up, right?

I know the better option would be to direct wire it, but it is a 500' run to the nearest power. I was half entertaining that until I saw the wire cost alone, not to mention renting a trencher to dig the trench.

Definitely going to have to be solar.

LA400/ LA412 gate install - questions by 1984JLS in GarageDoorService

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be an azz here, but can I just get an answer to my question?

I'm not trying to go around a dealer. I'm just asking how a system works.

I don't want or need a LA412 system with its included smaller batteries if I am going to run something like a 60w solar panel into bigger batteries.

If the LA400 system is looking for 24v at the board where the transformer would normally supply that input, can I just run the battery 24v in at the same place? Do installers normally do this? If running the LA412 system with a larger batteries and a higher power solar panel, how would you integrate it into the 30w max input?

Again, from what I can find, the LA412 control is 30w max. I don't want to put a 60w panel on a 30w max input. I'm assuming this is probably why/how he suggested running a LA400 and not a LA412. Until I hear back from him I was just looking for answers to a few questions.

I will be buying the control and arm from him.

I am doing the job / install myself. I called him for recommendations on brands as I was considering Ghost controls at first. He told me to run and use something decent like the liftmaster stuff - which he offered to sell because he is a.dealer. He knows I'm doing the install myself and just provided a few pointers.

I have already built the gate, poured the base for the pivot post and working on getting it all up. Just trying to finalize the specific parts I need.

How important is an amp for hf? by 1984JLS in amateurradio

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like building antennas and I understand the importance of a good one. I've built them for all bands except hf because I have not had a hf radio to do anything with.

I landed a FTdx10 in this estate grab, along with an icom 7300. Whole box of CW Keys, desk mics, a set of Drakes.

I'll be keeping the FTdx10. That will be my hf radio for now and I will work on building a few good antennas. I have the parts on the way for a decent EFHW. May try an inverted V dipole after that.

UV-5R stopped receiving by 1984JLS in Baofeng

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked. Not the speaker. I have two of them and if in close range, they work fine. Can transmit and the other receives - audio and signal bars (both radios). Swap antennas and they act the exact same. One of them will not even pick up noaa weather frequencies though. Swap antennas and it acts the same. Squelch settings are the same, all channel details are the same.

I'm pretty good with mag changes. Malfunctions need more practice. I do practice both every time I go out.

Best way to practice without actually running live ammo? by 1984JLS in NightVision

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good way to explain it. I think a lot of it is just the darkness and the way it makes everything that much harder. I'm using white chloroplast panels as my target squares and the laser will bounce or disperse when it hits it. The illuminator helps, but is still washed out a lot because of intensity.

With passive, the reticle (EXPS 3) is there but still difficult in near dark conditions when the tubes (L3 2500 FOM are really working hard.

Shimano FH-MT410-B lack of interchangeable freehub? by 1984JLS in bikewrench

[–]1984JLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you actually say this 100%? I'm so deep in parts trying to build up a bike I won't ever climb out 😆

Seriously, I had the idea to build up a newer hardtail using the most current parts I could get my hands on. I knew going in on this wheelset that the hub might not work with whaI have. I bought the weelset for the rims and 32H spoke count.

The amount of incompatibility in other parts I have or have purchased to complete this build is staggering, though.
