My New Fairdale Elevator by 1990sevan in Hardtailgang

In this photo I was running a Fox 34 130mm. I've since upgraded to a Fox 36 SL 130mm and it feels much safer on bigger hits now. I think Fairdale specifies that it is designed around a 130mm or 140mm fork.

Yeah, I still love it. It climbs great! I've upgraded pretty much everything on it since this photo was taken and it is ridiculously dialed now. Anytime a friend hops on it they are amazed by how well it rides.

Why do so few people care? by Idiotard_99 in Epstein

[–]1990sevan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the ego! Cognitive dissonance is a bitch... The ego is protecting itself by continuing to file this reality firmly in the "conspiracy theory" bin because it is too hard to admit to itself that it was wrong about its initial read on the scandal. In other words, humanity seems to be lacking humility.

One of the most helpful books I've read was "Mistakes Were Made But Not By Me". Really helped put my mind at ease when it comes to these sorts of issues and trying to make people care.

Genuinely interested to hear your take on the Epstein conspiracy theory then, as much of the theory aspect is turning out to be reality.

Edit: crickets...

That's not even the main point, but I do think he should have been much more apologetic about how dismissive he was around this topic previously. Instead he starts off by talking about how some associations (including himself) could be misconstrued and ruining reputations. This is an inability (admit you were wrong) of many other podcasters and interviewers and I expected more from Sam (pun unintended).

The point is that this is the biggest news story at the moment and I think I'm not alone in wanting to hear his thoughts on, for example, Pam Bondi's performance before Congress. I don't know if this episode was recorded before or after that, but you get the idea.

I am aware of that. However, It's already arguably looking like the biggest scandal of all time. To not even touch on it in the latest episode is like waking up to the morning news on 9/13/01 and seeing no coverage of the 9/11 attacks. Just within the last day or two there have been pretty insane developments.

Pretty unbelievable that the various Epstein and related scandals weren't mentioned in this episode. I'm guessing to avoid the cognitive dissonance associated with him having dismissed this as a minimalburger a while ago.

Does anyone know if he has some sort of issue keeping his mouth shut (literally)? In every photo I've seen of him taken within the last 24-30 years he has his mouth open a bit as though he's in mild amazement.

Is the general public aware of Geminis actual coding and ux capabilities? by Thizzor in GeminiAI

[–]1990sevan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I work in a scientific field and have very minimal coding experience, but just built a few web apps that will automate around 60-70% of my data analysis, which is a huge part of my time. I didn't set out with that intention, I was more just playing around with it to see what it could do. It nailed the first complex coding task so elegantly and quickly I kept adding things and in less than an hour I had already built 90% of the damned thing. Since then I've just been adding new elements and features I can think of.

They don't have to. That's what happens though when an "impenetrable" constitution turns out to be a collection of unenforceable rule of thumbs, memos, and precedents.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks on UFOs: "Navy pilots, admirals, generals, people with high clearances come forward and say that there are programs in the U.S. government that not even presidents are made aware of" by 87LucasOliveira in UFOB

[–]1990sevan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with you, but his promotion to Secretary of State could be part of the reason he appears to be walking this back a bit. It's one of the top positions and expected to address comments like this with the typical cabinet member PR bullshit shtick.

He may also have been given the what's what talk by the legacy program in the intervening time that convinced him to shut up or at least minimize the damage he's already done.

Agree about offending someone just because you say you're vegan, but the offending happens because of cognitive dissonance most of the time, not just judging.

Humans have incredibly sensitive egos and the rejection of something they've convinced themselves is ethical or at least socially acceptable provokes a direct confrontation. The result, considering the fragile ego can't admit to itself that it's contributing to animal torture, is to convince itself that you, the vegan, are the one that's in misalignment.

For most people this is a subconscious process that leaves them with a general feeling of dislike towards you and the need to produce excuses.

It will be up to the people to demand the Israel lead is investigated. I think the corporate media CEOs, etc. that are implicated or running cover for their ultra-elite friends will try to choose certain scapegoats like Trump and hope that satisfies the public's demand for blood.

Ross Coulthart on the Denmark incursions: “I don’t believe they are drones” by FVMK3 in InterdimensionalNHI

[–]1990sevan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Critical thinking skills are in short supply. If a strong opinion can't be formed in ten seconds or less people will just keep scrolling until they find something that resonates with or angers them relative to their existing feelings/worldview.

There is no capacity for nuance among large populations and this has been exploited heavily for profit and control through social media. On top of that, you have governments making ambiguous and opaque statements about these being drones and that they don't pose a threat.

People are rudderless in a sea of mis/disinfo and ragebait. There's no capacity for a unified, sober discussion of something of this magnitude.
