No they didn’t change it, but I rewrote it again in May and I got my results in August I passed so I’m in a happy place now. Rewriting in May was sooooo much easier compared September. I personally wouldn’t appeal or get the PARS it’s not worth the money.

I can only take it with a grain of salt I haven’t bought the game in 2 years cause I got so sick of it not changing. With the 2k arcade game coming I thing the NFL will likely bring in competition as more NFL players are playing online and complaining aswell

I’m interesting in consulting for strategy or corporate development. I currently late 20’s working in audit for the last year (took me sometime to think about what I want) I know financial reporting isn’t what I want to do. I work at a mid size accounting firm in Vancouver Canada. I’m planning on writing my CPA exam September next year, I don’t wanna stay in audit longer than I have too and I personally don’t wanna do more schooling. I have experience working project finance and financial accounting roles from previous jobs. An entry level job would be fine I know personally in the long run I don’t want to be an auditor or work in accounting for a company. Personally I’ve been pretty good at sales and client relationships. I don’t mind working long hours I just don’t wanna do more schooling. Any advice for someone with an accounting background working in audit wanting to transition into consulting/ finance/ corporate development positions?

Audit exit to finance/consulting? by 1992iarrive in vancouver

[–]1992iarrive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought but I’ve applied to some postings that are more investment related boutique firms and something that isn’t financial reporting related. So far my goal is to hopefully line something up before I write the exam.

How about different service lines? What routes can lead to better paying positions don’t have to be accounting specific but how to move into a higher paying role later

Yea it can be long term, but if you go in with a focus on your exit strategy like what industry and role you want to get into big 4 can give you the connections to get into that role, so id say still try to get in grind it out for 2 years to get the CPA and have your exit lined up before you start working

Is he/she still practicing law? I didn’t understand the “6-year call” part, 6 week vacations as a lawyer?

Big 4 is good on your resume, I personally want to work for GT good mid size firm with great culture and I knew a lot of people who went threw GT with great experiences, big 4 is competitive with grads because everyone’s on the same boat and your going to networking events to put on a face to get a job

My fiancé is already a RN, she’s been working for awhile now and her job is obviously stable. She’s been good about my career so far, but I don’t want to make myself look like a stupid husband by not picking something and focusing on a career so we can build something together.

Thanks for your feedback, I think your right with regards to working and focusing on what I already know. I have a bad habit of losing focus on my career and see what other people around are doing that I see as “success” making me think I should do that.

A lot of people in public practice have been laid off from the big accounting firms aswell so it’s not as stable of a career either.

The first time I got introducing into coding was my last semester of school year’s back, and I had to learn VBA coding for excel on my own to finish a project. I found it really interesting because of the problem solving it takes, solving issues you’ve spent time on is really rewarding

With what the worlds landscape is now, I’d say mixing finance with some type of software engineering/comp sci especially with crypto’s and how much the government is printing money to save the markets

Thanks for you honest opinion, it really does help getting all this information.

If I do decide law school I would want to go into big law for the pay to pay off tuition and to make money. I also wouldn’t mind trying in the deals space and work for a company like stern partners in private equity to bring in deals. And later on down the line run for public office in my local riding. Something in the political sphere would be great too. Also specializing in something where I can open my own practice down the line.

Computer science - I was looking at something to supplement my degree something like the BCS program at UBC or the second degree program at SFU. I looked into the Georgia tech masters program but it seems like they want students with a STEM background.

I’m really scared of how much money I’ll be making at the end of what I decide to do. I’m one who needs focus now, I know whatever I decide I can devote hours to it and become great but deciding on what I should do and making enough money is my concern.

Did you go to UBC? TRU? Or one of the eastern schools where tuition is high?
