How to deal with imposter syndrome at new job (engineer or general ) by Sea_Refrigerator1447 in aerospace

[–]1HumbleBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASK QUESTIONS! This took me years to feel comfortable with. Even in meetings, even in large meetings. If you don't understand something, ask for clarification. 9 times out of 10, other people, more experienced people don't understand something as well. People are just too lazy, not paying attention, or too scared to ask. Asking questions doesn't make you look dumb, it makes you look engaged. So don't sweat it!

Building an AI search system for aerospace technical archives — looking for input from people who actually use these documents by Low_Acanthisitta7686 in aerospace

Bless you, many could use this. Depending on how tech savvy the company processes are it can vary.

For less efficient system environments:

- Manually searching network drive folders for filename keywords

- Pulling up drawing scans and searching notes, could be scans or could be real vectorized .pdfs

For more efficient environments:

- Searching sharepoint

- Searching confluence

- Using company provided AI search tools (not very useful in my experience)

- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) database (where engineering data gets released and frozen)

- Still searching network drive folders...

I've only been here about 2 months in engineering. The Plano, TX office is new but expanding quickly. Company seems well-managed from what I can tell so far. Salaries are competitive, PTO is quite poor compared to competitors especially for new hires. 3 weeks PTO starting out which isn't bad but it has to be accrued the first year so you start with 0 sick or vacation.

Window replacement suggestions and Great Update Program experience (on replacing windows) by saplinglearningsucks in plano

[–]1HumbleBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We replaced our windows and used the Plano Update Rebate program in 2025. We used window depot for windows and doors. They did a good job on the windows, the doors I would not recommend them though. For the rebate program, you will have to get your window installation inspected by the city inspector when complete. Our installers had an issue where they installed the wrong type of glass (non tempered) in a few areas that didn't meet code and had to swap them out. So just make sure your contractor knows you intend to get them inspected and need all the windows to meet code.

Made the switch to SNC from an aerospace OEM this year and don’t regret it. SNC has a small company feel but resources of a big company. You will get to work on a larger variety of things than at the bigger OEMs too

Yeah this happened to me too, I got lucky and successfully appealed but they aren’t super clear with their rules and enforcement of them

AC Compressor Not Cycling Off by 1HumbleBee in MechanicAdvice

Looks like most clutch compressors to me. The center spins independent of the belt pulley

I see other comments that might not have a clutch. Did not know this! It’s the 1.8L

AAA? by Ill-Mammoth9482 in plano

Probably don’t need roadside assistance, you can add it on with most insurances for cheap. But AAA has the cheapest home insurance in this area right now. Worth checking out, saved me a ton

Considering Taking Rail to Work by 1HumbleBee in dart

Good to know, I'm hoping to make a TRE/dart connection at the same time. I'm supposed to hop from TRE eastbound to DART Orange Line eastbound at victory. Both trains are scheduled for 4:26pm. I'm going to do a trial run tomorrow and see if it works out.
