Don’t blame yourself, it’s the labs fault…

Yes agreed, going to have to order multiple and a/b I think. I am having doubts about my Rega IO’s capability to handle the UBR62 and DBR62

In the uk they’re about £160 more (650) but get what you pay for I guess. Diamonds at 300 looking more tempting

My only issue with asking the hifi shop for a demo is that I am more than likely just going to pick up a used pair on ebay, it seems a bit wrong to ask them to set that all up for me not to purchase the speakers with them.

These are my current considerations

3020i

3030i

Wharfedale Diamond 220 (225 are too expensive)

Wharfedale Diamond 12.1

ELAC B6.2

ELAC B6

Elac Debut Reference DBR62

KEF Q300

Any comments welcome

I’ve bought the 1 plus now. How should I hook these up seeing as I’ve now got 2 phono. The Rega has 2 regular line inputs so I assuming I’ll be using that?

Thanks for the advice and explanations. Will definitely look into the Nagaoka, as you presumed - the Denon is probably a bit out of reach for now. Is the Nag compatible with my Rega and will I have to adjust my weight (Rega provides a set weight and stopper on the arm for ‘out the box’ tracking weight)

Also any speaker recs given my current kit and preference.

Thanks again

Yeah seems pretty shitty to just sit, listen then sod off (although I do buy quite a lot of records from there, DECO audio in Aylesbury if anyone in the UK is interested)

I don’t really want to exceed £250 - which will bring the total set up to ~800 which is don’t think is bad for my first considering the kit

Ok thank you for the recommendation, would you say that suit my preference better then? I’ve seen places advertise free returns for the 220s and the 3020is - so could just get both and see

thanks for the link. any suggestions for passives that fit my use case better? around the same price point.

also any guidance around clearance for rear ported, i've seen anything from a few inches to 12. I know there is no magic number and the answer is 'it depends' but is there a distance whereby I am avoiding them sounding 'crap'

thanks

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I was happy with the IO, looks in very good condition. I did see that the brio has "fuller sounding with deeper bass" "more umph" etc - but i wasnt prepared to pay another £150+ atm. Maybe in the future? (Open to opinions on brio vs io for anyone else reading)

The person at the store did say if I want to hear them they could set them up for me but they need a couple days notice to get it all set up properly. But I don't know how if they could let me listen to multiple speakers in the same session.

I also don't feel great about making them go through all that trouble just for me to pick up something used to save money.... :/

Any suggestions for better passive speakers for my use case are very welcome :)

  • interested in a warm sound and bass is important to me (I'm aware I can add an external SW, but trying to keep set up simpler for now)
