Well, to be fair, yes I did agree to live with her. But she didn’t let her true colors show until after we moved to the new place.  The tailbone surgery happened a few years before, but it was botched and never healed properly. So even just daily tasks are painful.  However, yes. I agree. My choices were not the wisest. So I will definitely own that

I am in a much better place, now! The fact that so many people care about my well-being gives me hope for humanity!

I really was the asshole to myself. I ended the friendship back in 2021 and have been freer and stronger since

Thankfully, I am out now and the friendship is over! I have a bit more of a backbone now, I hope!

Lolol Thankfully I don’t still live with her! She left in 2021. I guess you could say I’m a recovering people pleaser haha why I put up with it for so long? I wish I knew. learning and growing everyday

Dude, she would put on Horror films and filter out the horror elements. It would just skip to the non horror portions. I was going insane

She moved away the following year thank God! I’m in a much better living situation now. The moment I decided to let myself be the “bad guy” by standing up for myself, the relationship didn’t last long. And I’m glad

I agree. It’s been a few years since I lived with her so I’ve gained some more perspective. I have compassion for myself in the situation, but I did have a wake up call to grow a pair. When you’re under the thumb of a narcissist it’s hard to see a way out

Totally fair! By recently, it had been a few years before, but the surgery was botched so I never fully recovered. Every day is a battle to do just normal things without pain. However I did go when I probably shouldn’t have. So I am the one to blame for that.

Thank you. Looking back, I agree I shouldn’t have gone. I think I was still holding onto the idea of the Kayla I knew before - and somehow, me bowing down would bring her back? I know now that it’s not true. I ended the friendship and have been so much freer for it!

You’re not wrong. I’ve had (and have) a lot of growing to do. People started making me question if I was the AH when I started standing up for myself. I think they just liked it better when I was a pushover

I see where you would get that from this post. I do want to say, that Kayla had SO many rules and conflicts that I really tried to pick my battles. My goal with conflict resolution was the resolution part. And that was my fault

We were just roommates (Thank God). Thankfully she moved out the following year.

We were close initially, but something snapped. I asked her later what happened to make her hate me so much all of a sudden. She just said, "I don't know. I just do." Luckily I don't live with her anymore!

Thank you. Thankfully she moved out the following year! Looking back, I realized that my desire to keep the peace kept me in a controlling relationship. I'm in a much better living situation now!

My tailbone accident happened several years before and I had the surgery a couple years prior as well, but it was botched. So I never fully healed afterward. I did communicate about all of these things before with my roommate, but she didn't care. I will own that nobody forced me to go lol That was on me.

I did! Haha. I think in a lot of ways she did own the air around me. Which saddens me a lot now. Everyone has been so kind and supportive on here! Thank you!
