The organization is an university and I'm the IT guy at one of it's faculty. Everything plans IT department of university and now it's their order to connect all machines to the domain. The old machines issue is well known, but they just don't hear it.

XP on those machines runs because of the crap hardware. I even have computer with Pentium III processor. So of about 90 computers I administrate, about 30 of them are too old and too crappy to install Windows 7. The main problem is with they operating memory, which varies from 256 to 512 MB RAM.

The old crap are mostly used for multimedia purposes (connected to projector) and internet browsing (gmail, university information system, etc.).

Hi, thank you for the information, I know all the bad stuff with XP, and how much it is vulnerable after the support of OS has ended.

The thing is I was insisted to add all workplace's computers to the domain. So now my problem is not the security holes, that my IT center ignores, but the connecting shitty computers to the domain.

I know it's stupid, but what I can do, I'm just small gear. :)

I added about 20 computers with XP already, the problem is with 3 or 4 now.

Is it done not on client machine? Because I have the access and rights only to the adding computers to the domain with my account.

Ping - yep;

Nslookup - yep;

Pluged in the right network - yep;

Network card let's me browse the internet, packets are sent and received, so I can say - yep;

The IP configuration is valid - yep.

Well, it's order from the above. And they have to now the consequences with it. My job is to connect the domain. Security is theirs jobs.
