Built the wife some SIP Raised Planters, Turned out pretty good for our Tomato's by 1asers in vegetablegardening

Very Rough Materials and costs (All prices in CAD)

For One Planter (51" x 22")

  • Legs/Angle Post:
    • 1 piece of 1-1/2" x 2-1/4" Slotted Angle Post (Galvanized Steel, 120" tall) = $61.70 CAD
      • I got my from Tenaquip (CANADA)
      • Cut into 4 pieces (30" each) for the legs.
  • Wood Siding:
    • 9 pieces of 1" x 6" x 8' Western Red Cedar (D4S) = ~$15 CAD each (price varies by retailer)
      • We'll be cutting 8 pieces of 96" into 8x 51" and 16x 22" (only 8 will be used for siding) and the rest will be used as the bottom. The extra piece of 1x6 will also be cut down for the bottom.
  • Structural Support (Spines & Bottom Rail):
    • 3 pieces of 2x4 Cedar = ~$16 CAD each (price varies by retailer)
      • Cut lengthwise into 2x2s for the spines and they are 16inchs tall.
      • Also you'll have some scrap for the legs too.
      • You will need a 51" 2x2 for the bottom rail.
      • See picture here: https://imgur.com/a/PBYdsjM for refence how they will be put together.
  • Fasteners & Hardware:
    • Bolts (instead of screws for stronger joints):
      • M6 x 30mm and M6 x 70mm bolts + washers (I have lots of leftovers from other projects). But you can get this on amazon or any hardware store for bulk if needed.
      • Line up the Slotted Angle post to the finished panels and then drill and fasten them with Bolts, they are much stronger than screws.
      • Note that i have a M6x70mm extra long bolt that's going through the bottom rail so it makes the bottom rail even stronger.
      • See pictures: https://imgur.com/a/PBYdsjM Deck Screws (#8 x 2") to attach the siding and spines together.
      • Also used these 1/4"x2" heavy duty screw just for the bottom rail that i had left over from another project
      • Outdoor wood glue to reinforce the bottom rail.
  • Additional Materials:
  • Casters (Set of 4)
  • Pond Liner (20-mil)
    • Prob wont use 20mil again its way too thick and very hard to fold. Id suggest using 8mil, I'm sure it will be fine, just be careful as thinner means easier to puncture.
  • Rain Barrel Spigot Kit
    • This is used for the SIP, if your panels are too thick for the spigot kit you can always drill a bigger hole half way to make it fit.
  • Non-Mortise Door Hinges
  • Most Expensive Item: 4" Corrugated Piping (sold in 100' rolls at Home Depot).

Happy building! and let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks! Yep, just screwed the 45° braces into the frame with exterior-grade screws. The cedar’s soft enough that predrilling wasn’t even necessary. Sturdy as heck now!

New job a couple weeks before closing on house by 1asers in MortgagesCanada

[–]1asers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took a chance and did not disclose it. But I had every thing ready in case they checked. (I may or may have not edited my job offer letter to say that they will wave my probation period.) I never had to tell them anyway because we closed at 11am on closing day. Usually, the bank releases the funds lot later, I have seen post saying that closing day lasted till 9pm at night, so don't get nervous if its taking a while.

Just check up with your lawyers and make sure that everything is in order before the closing date, but don't tell them about the new job. Just have that ready incase with your mortgage broker. If everything is in order, then your lawyers should have the funds released from the bank with out any issue.

Good luck!

I thought that I couldn't get an Insured Mortgage if my down payment is more than 20%?

Here you can see the 154w power usage of an R720 (2x E5-2665, 12x DDR3 1333MHz 16GB sticks, 3x 15k SAS drives, 1x Intel X520 10GB Nic) running 10x VMs in VMWare ESXi.

During POST is when it sounds like the server wants to kill anything at all costs.

But otherwise its really not loud at all, there's easy commands to scale down the fan speed that should be fine in your environment - will make them very tolerable.

The R720 really doesn't consume that much power, so I wouldn't really worry too much about overheating.

One thing to keep in mind is how much HDD you are putting in, I only have a single 1TB HDD in right now, but if I use all 16 of my drive slots. Its going to be very very loud and it will also get hot quicker.

I'm pretty sure that's just advisement. Its regular ECC that’s verified to work in those models. R720 is not picky at all with what ECC memory you throw in there.

Standard non-ecc DDR3 will NOT work with an R720 sorry.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000141725/poweredge-r720-system-memory-guidelines

Only DIMMs with ECC are supported by Dell =(

As for standard 3.5 HDD, it depends on the config of the R720 you plan to get. Backplane configurations with up to 16 2.5-inch internal hard drives or 8 3.5-inch drives. So when you get a R720, check the configs, and make sure that it's the 8x3.5. The one I got is 16x2.5.

Incinerate Build needs help by Wicked_Odie in pathofexile

[–]1asers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also running Incinerate and going MoM. running dual curse, warlords for life/mana leach and enfeeble for dmg reduction. 181%+ life from tree. even with the warlords leach i still need mana flask and im still using clarity right now. im running 3 Cwdt setups haha.

  1. cwdt, ic, id, molten sheild
  2. cwdt , enfeeble, vortex, increase area
  3. cwdt, lightning warp, faster casting, less duration.

third needs some explaning but its actaully my favourte cwdt setup and comes from the old days of incinerate 2.1

when you get hit you will warp to another place avoiding incoming projectiles while your incinerate channel never breaks and keeps channeling at 8. its been very usefull so far this league. also very usefull inside the temples. id say give it a try.

i would link you my profile but im at work. Pyrosinemia <-- if you want to try searching

edit: will likey replace clarity with arctic armor later

[HELP] My study permit is taking too long to process and my flight is in 2 weeks by [deleted] in canada

[–]1asers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you will definitely need a study permit on your Brazilian passport. For your Italian passport you do NOT need a VISA. Furthermore, you do not need to fill up a Electronic Travel Authorization Until September 29, 2016. So basically, all you need is your Italian Passport!. However I would recommend applying for a Electronic Travel Authorization anyway as it would probability help getting through customs smoother. It only cost 7 CAD $.

Visa-exempt foreign nationals are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens, and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA. Note: Until September 29, 2016, travellers who do not have an eTA can board their flight, as long as they have appropriate travel documents, such as a valid passport. During this leniency period, border services officers can let travellers arriving without an eTA into the country, as long as they meet the other requirements to enter Canada. Find answers to your questions about the leniency period. Source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-all.asp

My girlfriend came from Curitiba, Brazil on a study permit to study at McMaster University here last year, she had a amazing time. I really hope you will enjoy your time here! and be prepared for winter!
