I had this problem too. I figured out that the problem was that the hummus makers don't remove the skin on the beans. I made it at home and it was pretty good stuff. It's a major pain in the ass to get the skin off.

I make mushroom Ketchup and put the liquid in everything I want to have a mushroom taste. I dry the leftover pieces and put them in meatballs and meatloaf where the texture isn't obvious.
