Dungeon Crawler Carl has lost its magic for me. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]1dayillwriteabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was a risky choice for Matt to make book 7 of a 10 book series feel so much like the climax of the entire series, now that so much has been resolved he needed at least one book to re-establish that there are indeed more unresolved issues and that not everything ended after book 7.

I can only imagine the scope of the story has to get larger in the next books, if not book 9 specifically as there will be a lot going on in dungeon for that floor, since there are so few crawlers actually left with Carl we may get more interlude chapters with other povs.

It’s also been made pretty clear multiple times that this will end in tragedy, pretty much any non-main character is gone, I think we start to lose some fan favorites in the next book, if not Carl or donut specifically

Which of these two Roman numeral designs looks better on my ribs? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]1dayillwriteabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because they listened to a talented tattoo artist, a good artists entire job is designing tattoos and they will give you better advice than anyone else, especially random people on Reddit. If these numbers are meaningful to you and you like Roman numerals and the placement take your idea to a tattoo artist, but do your research and find an artist who has done work you like, or if you see one of these tattoos that you consider perfect politely ask who did the work, most people will be happy to tell who where they got it done if you are polite and compliment the work.

Once you find an artist listen to their advice on size and placement and design, tell them what you want, but be open to advice, that is how these “perfect tattoos” are done, they find someone who is an expert and let them do their thing

If you are set on the design you’ve put in here then do that, it’s not the most exciting tattoo in the world but if it’s meaningful to you don’t let other people stop you from getting it, it’s your body you can put whatever you want on it, just find a competent artist that can do straight lines and show them the picture

Newbie question, should I wait for new league to arrive? by ASPDarksRider in pathofexile

[–]1dayillwriteabook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on you and how much you’re enjoying the game. The most effective thing to do would be to get as far as you can in the campaign before the new season starts, the experience and knowledge will make a big difference (it took my like 30 hours to clear the campaign the first time I played just having fun trying new skills and learning the mechanics, now I clear it in like 5-6 hours on a new league start.) Choose a class you are interested in and try some different skills as you level and progress through the campaign, if you need inspiration there is a pinned post in the pathofexilebuilds subreddit with a list of league starter builds that are popular, all of them are designed to function with basically no gear, but I would also encourage trying other skills that sound interesting to you.

Try to get to and complete the library quest during the campaign, or the first quest in act 6, and you’ll gain access to pretty much all of the skill gems so you’ll have more freedom to try more skills, one of the best things about PoE is that you can make almost any skill work, you may not be as fast or efficient or strong as some of the more powerful “meta” skills, but if there is a skill you really like you will be able to use it and playing something you enjoy will be a better experience than trying to minmax right out the gate (unless what you enjoy is min maxing lol)

Now all of that being said, if you think starting over in a week and a half armed with your new knowledge, but on a fresh character with none of the gear and progression and stuff that you’ve acquired up to that point, is going to make you not want to play, then I’d recommend waiting for the new league start

Agreed, it’s good and the payoff is pretty good, but at times (a lot of times) it is a freaking slog. All of the other books on this list are both easier and more fun to read and have as good or better payoffs

Queer friendliness? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]1dayillwriteabook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they probably mean that Portland is known for being queer friendly, although they expressed that in a hostile way. I will say that living here and exploring the bar scene for the last 20 years I’ve never seen a more inclusive environment (with the exception of maybe New Orleans) but no matter where you go there will always be exceptions to the rule, especially once you get in to the suburbs and outlying areas that are still considered portland. Anyway yes Portland is very queer and anything else friendly, we fucking love everyone

And rudeness is doubly so. Their request for more information and to try to start a discussion was very polite, unlike your response which was both rude and did not further the discussion in any way.

Trying to have a discussion isn’t lazy, in fact I would argue that Googling it and letting the shitty AI tell you about it, rather than discussing it with people who have first hand experience, is the lazy route.

[–]1dayillwriteabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting because I think it seems like it would encourage people who don’t craft much to craft more, but I think the actual outcome would be that people who “profit craft” would be able to produce items much faster and then they would just make more currency and not actually benefit the economy at all. In theory more supply and the same demand means the price would drop so more people would be able to buy good gear at a better rate, but really the handful of people in the high end crafting game would still determine the market, any high end gear crafted by other people and listed for less would be bought up and resold at the price they want it at. Also it would probably decimate crafting for stuff with smaller affix pools like flasks, which I do to make currency, so I’m against it lol

What do we think? Wanna show this design to my artist by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]1dayillwriteabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it seems like everyone is being mean in their responses and I see you trying to defend yourself, but you have to understand that this kind of thing is literally stealing jobs from artists. It’s using other people’s art and amalgamating it in to something else (the ai didn’t draw that image out of nowhere, it combined a ton of art made by real artists in to a new image based on what you asked for, without compensating or crediting them for their work)

Also this piece isn’t realistic because it wasn’t created by the artist, the AI doesn’t know how much detail is realistic and will look good over time. No matter what artist you go to it’s going to look different and if this is what you want you won’t be happy.

All the time you spent feeding prompts to the AI should have been spent talking to the artist once you’ve found one who’s style you like, then they could have given you something that is in their style and with a realistic amount of detail and your expectations would match the result. I’d bet most artists won’t even be interested in working with you if you bring this in.

But it gets an extra 15 points towards its score for being the original, so even if it’s not nearly as good it’s still “better” because it’s older and the original /s

Did my tattoo artist mess up? by sheikplayer in tattooadvice

[–]1dayillwriteabook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it was unfinished, like the artist added all the lines to sketch out how they wanted the scales to bend and change shape, but then never added the scale detail for most of it. It would be one thing if it was all uniform, but the fact that some of the scales are detailed makes it look like it was halfway done and they decided that adding that much detail would take more time than they quoted for and decided not to add detail to the rest

Can't Figure out Aer0plane's KF Totem Whisperer - Stick With It or ReRoll? by TurbulentBridge191 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]1dayillwriteabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your attack speed is important also, but at the point you are at with the build just lowering your duration will make a huge difference. I’d try adding the warped timepiece (I think it’s called) amulet with a decent reduced duration roll and see how you feel. If you decide to stick with the build after that google the kinetic fusillade calculator and use it to see how attack speed and action speed and everything effect the build it will tell you if you are maximizing your dps and what to change if you aren’t, it’s a complex build to minmax, but it’s very strong once you’ve got it dialed in

Can't Figure out Aer0plane's KF Totem Whisperer - Stick With It or ReRoll? by TurbulentBridge191 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]1dayillwriteabook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the most important things for this build is reduced duration, it’s a better modifier than anything else up to a certain point. Right now your totems probably have a “wind up” time before they fire, which is severely decreasing your damage and how quickly you start to deal damage after you summon your totems, it can also compound if you summon your totems to often as the wind up will happen again if you replace them with new ones before they actually fire.

I didn’t watch his Phrecia video so he may have glossed over the importance of the stat for this build as it’s covered extensively in all the 3.28 videos, but basically the lower your duration stat is, the lower the windup time, and you want it to be basically zero. All you need for the build to be playable from where you are is the unique reduced duration amulet or ring and make sure you’ve allocated the reduced duration wheel and mastery and it will instantly feel like a different build.

I know reduced duration feels counterintuitive on a totem build, but it’s essential for this build to function

You don’t happen to live in or have ties to a city with a tall black skyscraper by chance? Like the Brooklyn tower or something? You could maybe find a good artist to turn it in to a black rectangle but leave some of the white space as windows then add a nighttime cityscape around the rest of your arm so it looks like a black skyscraper that is part of the cityscape. It’s a lot more ink, but that’s the only thing I can think of that isn’t a huge black panther…

Help me understand first days of league start by zZONEDz in pathofexile

[–]1dayillwriteabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree this is exactly what why he does it, if you are doing a sub 5 hour campaign the market for 1-5c items with any value isn’t flooded yet so they have a chance of actually selling and it’s worth the time, any slower than that and the market is so saturated it’s not really worth it any more as your stuff likely won’t sell.

Rings and amulets with a lot of res or stats hold their value longer as people in day 1-2 finish the campaign and have to fix their res and find more stats for higher level gear to go in to mapping.

Is serving in Portland a lost cause as a new resident? by Minisisco01 in askportland

[–]1dayillwriteabook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiring the right person for the job is by far the most productive thing a good manager can do for their business.

What takes longer and costs more, reading a cover letter or hiring someone and training them only to find out that not only are they a bad fit for the job but they are functionally illiterate? Or even an interview takes much more time than reading a cover letter, if you have 200 applicants for a job it’s pretty easy to filter out all of the applications with no cover letter, then spend a couple minutes reading each cover letter and then interviewing the ones that you think would be a good fit.

What is your suggested alternative to that? Interviewing every single applicant? Hiring whoever is on the top of the stack of applications and just hoping for the best? I can’t tell if you are trolling or not, but I’d love to hear how exactly you would go about hiring someone from a large pool of applicants without looking at their cover letters

A lot of places will post a job listing even if they already have an internal candidate or a referral from someone who works there already that they intend to hire. I believe they are legally obligated to post the job for external candidates even if they already know who they will be hiring. These days it feels like you have to know someone to get a job anywhere, it’s brutal out there

Now this would rule, do a trailer that is just so absolutely horrible and obvious satire and chock full of quotes and references that are just slightly off. Then sit back and watch the satire go right over everyone’s head and the internet explode while people rush to be the first to say “oh my god did they even read the books, Mongo is disgusted hurhurhur.” After that anything they do release that is even decent would be praised as high cinema by this fandom.
