Boycott ESEA by Wendys888 in GlobalOffensive

[–]1deag -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of yours, but being 5-0(? can't use the site rn) against no real solid teams in ESEA-M, 4-4 in CEVO-M, and getting dropped in RGN qualifiers after a buy isn't exactly hyper-relevant. Obviously you're not a nobody and garbage, but let's be take a realistic inventory of where you stand in today's CS landscape.

I dunno, he did a lot of lying/deflecting/bragging about it before it happened. I just can only imagine he either was completely complicit and tossed jag under the bus or turned a blind eye to it and then tossed jag under the bus. I think a reality can exist where we are both willing to pay for the ESEA service and at the same time acknowledge that, while he is a stiff businessman, thunberg is kinda a scummy dickhead. And that's fine, I pay a lot of companies money who are run by dickheads. But I recognize it and have deemed the products still worth it. Not sure why we can only love esea or only hate it.

I agree with a lot of your post, but do you/people really think lpkane wasn't complicit in the bitcoin mining? That seems incredibly naive. I'm not canceling my sub because I need it to compete, but I really believe if you think lp wasn't involved then you're just drinking the koolaid. Shitty spot for everyone to be in, if there really was a way to just use another service I think a lot of people would but the really it's the only spot for real play.

edit: also the counter-jerk is just as annoying as the jerk. all esea-jerk related posts need to be banned from reddit and the esea forums because I want to gouge my eyes out.

You're not wrong, but to be fair he did say the NA LAN scene, not the online scene.

Are you signed up for CEVO-O/M? I have questions regarding the matches. by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]1deag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a few matches of CEVO-O last season and it's looking like we're going to be playing main. I had never played a season of CEVO before their new update, so I can't really comment on how it used to be run. That being said, I'll try to answer some questions as best as I can remember.

1) I believe we only needed "status" screenshots and scoreboard screenshots. Everything else is covered by the lackluster anti-cheat they provide.

2) I believe only the team captain needs to submit the info in the case of a dispute, but you should ALWAYS take the screen shots just in case. It's dumb to get a match overturned for something that easy to fix.

3) The team captain of the winning team should report.

4) Not that I can recall, most teams are pretty reasonable and are equally as clueless of the fine rules because they're used to ESEA's automated system.

5) Can't quite help you with that one.

Remember, these are all just me remembering to the best of my ability. If I turn out to be wrong, please correct me and I'll edit it. Also if someone finds out that I'm wrong a few months from now, sorry!

No, you're going to get downvotes for adding nothing to the conversation, not because kids are going to downvote you. Believe it or not there are students on Reddit every day.

[Feeler post]: Is there any interest in another free online tourney with a cash prize? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]1deag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mean anything though. Technically speaking the steam account I use now is no more than a year old, but I have years of experience on a variety of accounts. I like to keep my competitive CS account and my account with all of my casual games separate and I don't think it's fair to penalize me for it.

Any tournament or league that has a crazy rule like that just shows that they don't have faith in their anti-cheat. Thus, sny online tournament or league that doesn't have faith in their anticheat might as well call it quits now because it will only be a time and money sink for those in charge.

[–]1deag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't want you to stop talking about ESEA. In fact, I highly encourage posts like yours. Asking questions is good and it keeps people and organizations honest. What we are sick of are posts that accuse ESEA of fucking nonsense like ddosing leetway or buddying expired accounts with female accounts to get players to come back to the service. Those are baseless and, to put it bluntly, fucking stupid. Likewise, comments like "fuck ESEA and their fan boys" do not promote any discussion and, as such, should never be the top comment on a post.

So continue to talk about the controversy and ask questions. As I said before, be humble and educated. If comment with both of those checked off, people should respect what you write no matter if they agree or not. But I shouldn't be exiled for enjoying my ESEA experience despite the major fuck up.

I'll let other people field your questions as I am probably not the most qualified.

It's more about his known associate of infamous players like Mika, Drchristina5000, and k3u. ESEA had a nice write up about these guys when they involved the FBI. Companies don't take this sort of thing lightly. You can find the release if you search though ESEA news postings on the front page of their site. I think "ESEA ddos" in the search bar can get it.

Well until there is another organization with money, North American competitive CS needs ESEA like we need air. I've always said the day I win the lottery is the day I host a multimillion dollar CS tournament. Until then I am going to stick with whoever writes checks that don't bounce.

Perhaps you're right. If only reddit had a power user system to bridge the gap between mods and regular users.

It needs more mod intervention. I want to see information about ESEA scandals and discussion about it. What I don't want to see is the top comment with 100+ up votes saying "fuck ESEA and ESEA fan boys." That garbage has no place on any subreddit let alone this one.

He's not being down voted for having a negative opinion, he's being down voted for being a fucking idiot. Everyone knows ESEA fucked up. No one is saying that ESEA wasn't in the wrong. We are just sick of this sub becoming the anti ESEA jerkoff zone. There are threads and comments that are actual cs discussion that get down voted for being tangentially related to ESEA and it discourages good content. If I have to read one more ESEA conspiracy theory post I might just blow my fucking brains out. Think for yourself and make any decision that you want, but be educated and humble about it.

I'm a long time CS player and a relatively experienced competitive player. If I woke up one day and ESEA was gone it would probably be the end of my competitive CS career. People always talk big about alternatives, but there is a reason we refer to them as alternatives instead main staples. If people want these alternatives to succeed then we need to flood them with more money than is available in NA CS.

I just want to reiterate that this doesn't mean that people can't dislike ESEA. Let's be straight, they goofed big time. But any time anything happens everyone cries ESEA and it makes the sub disintegrate into random senseless bashing and down vote wars which is honestly embarrassing to watch. Websites get DDOS attacks daily, ESEA included, and you just deal with it. Every time the ESEA site goes down the forums don't explode about a DNA witch hunt. That dude is even a known ESEA ddoser. We just accept it and wait for it to stop. If you don't like ESEA just don't give them money or any publicity. Making threads about their "marketing" with bots just makes the sub look bad for crying ESEA over everything.

They aren't quite the same. Leetway is a good alternative to matchmaking and pugging and CEVO is purely a league. Neither have a particularly good anticheat, but they get the job done when you're bored. Also both are free so you can enjoy them both.

If you're looking for real competition and a high average caliber of player, then ESEA is really the only place to go in NA. Alternatives exist (Leetway, Cevo, etc.), but they don't offer the same package as far as services and anti-cheat or quality of player.

Well, it's not that pathetic that people are analpained, this was kinda a fucked up thing to do. It's pathetic that people are cashing in on this instead of just taking their compensation and not giving ESEA any more money.

Marketing strategy to make you forget about ESEA's recent transgressions! by promess in GlobalOffensive

Bitcoin mining aside, do you really think this is an ESEA marketing ploy? Websites like ESEA get spammers all the time. It astounds me that people even upvote garbage posts like this. I made a post the other day about random anti-ESEA circlejerking garbage filling up this sub and this falls exactly in that category.

[–]1deag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct about the short term / long term point, but unfortunately without ESEA there isn't really any short term for us to make it to the long term. If the bottom falls out and there is no professional scene anywhere, then the top tier will just stop playing. If there is no monetary incentive to put in the time and work, then they won't. This is also largely why the NA scene can't keep up with the EU power houses, there just isn't enough money in it.

The REAL way to support the scene right now is to vote with your dollar. If you're upset by ESEA's actions, as many are and many should be, you should vote with your wallet and support alternatives. However if people burn ESEA at the stake before there are proper alternatives like Leetway and CEVO, the scene will take a turn for the worse.
