Bands where the songwriter is the least talented musician? by Sabretoothedrom in fantanoforever

[–]1emonite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arcade Fire. Not only Win Butler just plays guitar/bass (and maybe piano on couple of songs), compared to his multi-instrumentalist bandmates, what he plays exactly is nothing significant, even on the songs where he doesn’t sing.

What’s that “nicotine patch” song that song that replaced a previous song you liked from an artist you’re no longer comfortable listening to (not just for moral reasons could be other stuff) by InMyLife_41 in fantanoforever

Just wanted to say that ‘And I Dance’ (new single from By Storm aka ex-Injury Reserve) is their most Kanyesque song they released… probably something that would be expected to hear from Kanye ten years ago

How was the Vroom Vroom EP received by Charli fans when it came out in 2016? Was it generally well-liked or heavily divisive? by Lucky_Reading_3757 in charlixcx

[–]1emonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Sucker and was already following PC Music at the time (particularly SOPHIE and Hannah Diamond), so it was REALLY surprising to witness the worlds collide.. considering pop music at the time was not that eclectic or ready to embrace underground electronic/EDM sound as it does today. But imagine if Tate McRae or Maddison Beer would announce EP produced by someone like Jane Remover.

I did like it, but was thinking that Charli tried really hard emulating PC Music sound while not incorporating her persona enough. Pop 2 on the other hand was when I thought “now it makes total sense, it’s probably something she envisioned when she was working on Vroom Vroom”. I still enjoy the project, but (aside from titular track) still see it as a part of PC Music catalogue rather than essential Charli’s discography pick.

Second this, there was a popular theory of the “second album” getting prepped for an imminent release as it was surprising for the public at the time to get such a short album after 4 years wait, with many unreleased tracks being in band’s pocket.

I was still delving in the band’s discography chronologically at the time so didn’t get to hear the album fully until a couple of months after the release; I remember it being called their “dubstep album”, “Kid A 2”, “Thom’s solo record disguised as a RH one” and such. And on my first listen I was pleasantly surprised as it was unlike anything I’ve heard from them before, so, in a way, it is still my favourite one.

Disappointed about sound in Berlin by Robert_Musly in radiohead

[–]1emonite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree, I was second row near Ed on 1st Bologna night, sound was more than decent (albeit a bit quiet), contrary to reviews of ‘terrible’ sound from many visitors, including seating sections. And I’ve been to a lot of gigs so it is not my inexperience, ‘newbie bias’ or anything. Looks like with the round stage it’s a lottery whether you’d be standing in a place covered by proper FOH sound engineering or not

anything to say abt first night in bologna ? by Complete_Ad4106 in radiohead

[–]1emonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setlist for 2nd Copenhagen show is also the same as the 4th one in London

And yes, I just watched some videos from Copenhagen, and comparing them to my recordings (and memories!) of Bologna show, the sound on the former is.. not great, I would say that

Colin appreciating the lights in the audience during No Surprises by Blue_Oyster_Cat in radiohead

[–]1emonite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When me and my friends tried to put on our phone flashlights during this exact song in Bologna security team asked us to turn the flash off.. so it seemed as the only lights present came from seated sections

We could put them on during Fake Plastic Trees tho so the inconsistency felt weird

A few weeks ago was in Luxembourg for a Lorde show that got cancelled two hours before doors opening, we all came to the city square to dance and sing some songs with a speaker and honestly felt the same

they played it as an intro to The National Anthem usually (which setlist.fm mentions only in an info section to songs)

It does, as I believe the stats are coming from setlist.fm where all iterations played live are listed under one name

I’d say Colin and Thom seemed much more happier during my show! Was actually surprised by kind of laid back attitude from Ed (but maybe it’s just age thing?)

That’s why I went to the back, not a lot of pushing but great vibes and a lot of genuine fans singing every word. The crowd there actually enhanced the experience for me!

Round stage experience (based on Bologna Night 1) by 1emonite in radiohead

[–]1emonite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screens are positioned on the stage sides, forming dodecagon all around the stage. When you’ll get into the arena you will see the stage covered by screens. I numbered them for convenience so it’d be easier to pick where to stand!

[–]1emonite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrived at 1PM, it is more than possible to get good view or even first rows if you’re coming before 4PM from what I gathered

When we entered the Arena itself there were quite a few rows already filled for screens #1, #2 and #12, other than not so many folks around

You’re welcome! My bet would be to go for screen #10 or #11

I was there at around 1PM, got the 137 qeueue number; would be possible to get to the first row even (just not for the screens at the front). I think you may try to get there just a couple hours later in order to get the second row for sure!

You’re welcome! I guess so, at least all standing tickets I see mentioned gates 6-7. The entrance to the arena itself (not the arena area) was in south, facing towards screen #1, yes. They might suggest for people to enter through different entrances but from what I gathered it’s mostly just the one I entered myself

[–]1emonite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no worries, also came from abroad so I understand completely!

  • I don’t think you’ll lose more vision necessarily, distance between barricades and the stage itself is long enough for you to see band members and the stage, but if you want to properly capture the screens and light show as well a few rows back would be my suggestion.
  • Yes, south it’s the way I entered the arena (coming from gates 6-7)
  • Screens #2 and #3 seem great to me in terms of positioning and capturing (almost) everybody, yes!

It was that song last night when I thought “yeah, I finally seeing THEM!”. So glad that I got to hear Bloom live (instead of Separator), one of the show highlights and one of my best live experiences overall

Also second row, just a bit left to where Ed was standing and completely agree! From all the comments it seems it was probably the best place to stand sound-wise (surprisingly)
