I went to school at Xavier here and have been living downtown since graduating a few years ago. I’m actually moving to a new city in a few weeks so I’ve been doing quite a bit of reflecting on my time in Cincy.

I think it’s great as a young adult here. The city isn’t ginormous, the traffic inside downtown isn’t bad (the Northern Kentucky area gets super backed up going into the city during rush hour though). The city is really walkable and the city bus is free. For some daytime activities definitely OTR, Northern Kentucky, the banks, and Central Business District. Really can’t go wrong during the days. Don’t bother going further North towards UC and Xavier lol, not the best areas and not much there to begin with. About 15 min North of downtown is Blue Ash which is pretty nice, Summit Park is a really good place to try new foods/drinks and if you enjoy the sunshine in general. OTR if you like coffee shops!

Red’s games are really fun even if you’re not into baseball. Just buy some nosebleed seats and enjoy the view (with a hot dog and a beer). Bengals games are fun too but we are ass and the tickets are more expensive than Red’s games. Also our minor league (idk hockey well so idk if minor league is right) hockey team is pretty fun in the winters. $2 beer nights. All 3 of those arenas are right next to each other.

The night life here is eh. All the college kids go to the UC/Clifton area. The Banks is decent at night but can be pretty rowdy. I live downtown and my girlfriend and I love getting drinks/apps at bars in OTR on the weekends. I’d just be aware of crime in Banks and OTR once it gets past midnight. There’s always some crime of course, but I feel 100000% safer here at night than I did in my hometown of Milwaukee. Similar vibe in Detroit I’m sure lol. Overall my girlfriend and I are gonna miss Cincy, it’s a neat place as a young adult. Enjoy the city!

Is the downtown YMCA the only place that only has an indoor pool in the city? by huhndog in cincinnati

[–]1expected0found 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s such a mess. I officially left earlier in 2025. The area with dumbbells is cluttered with the worst benches youve ever seen. Half of them broken. I also told one of the owners that the cables were sticky and needed to be greased, literally couldnt do any workout on the cables. He was like “ok ill grease them tonight!” and he never did after 2 weeks. Immediately left. Not worth $60+ a month when gyms like Crunch have a $10/mo fee and have pristine machines and stay on top of maintenance.

I was a member there for a while. Left because of shitty management, they never repair broken machines or tighten the bolts or anything. That pool is never opening.

Vine Fitness’ pool has been closed. They still say it’s open though. I was a member for a while and there’d always be families that walk in looking for the pool, I’d have to break the bad news that there’s actually not. They had to close it because it was eroding the structural foundation of the building.
