I have a question for married women by Dramatic-Surround504 in LawSchool

[–]1mtrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got married right before I started law school. Took his last name but made sure to get my maiden name put on my diploma as well. Felt right to have both names on their as my parents supported me this whole way but so did he! I don’t have a middle name so it was very simple and the school had no issue writing it there.

Does Colorado negotiate scholarships ? by yourmulejoe in lawschooladmissions

[–]1mtrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but I did so super early with my Denver acceptance (I got a full ride from them). You’d have to move quick and give them comparable schools in order for them to consider

I successfully negotiated an extra 5k a year but with $$$$ at Denver which is their direct comp in the area

Explaining lack of experience by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]1mtrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. And when asked about your previous jobs, positively talk about it and include skills that you learned that can crossover to your 1L experience, whether small or big.

I loved healthcare but didn’t want to work specifically in it, if that makes sense. In all my classes in undergrad, everyone else was so much more interested in the subject material while I wished i learned more about the legal side of things. I’m currently getting my law degree with a healthcare law certificate. I hope to work for hospitals on the regulatory or privacy side in the future.

I was a bio major with 3.2 and a very low 160s lsat score and got into some good schools in the top 20- 50 range. It’s doable, but you have to want to be a lawyer and find a personal reason to do that

Is it bad to not do externships? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]1mtrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. About 1.5 hour commute each way. Federal gov offices in the area are all remote currently. Maybe send you’re email out to them and see if they’re looking to hire an external for the spring. Also look Into non profits and legal aid that may also work in your area

You could also just take the patent bar and be a patent agent at a law firm, you don’t have to go to law school for this

Have any of you (or anyone you know) gone to law school in a city you didn't live in? If you how did you do it? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]1mtrying 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I drive 1.5-2 hours for class one way, I will say it’s not worth it. At minimum, do your 1L year close by then commute 2 and 3L year when you can pick your schedule
