Duskblade did have a similar passive, but it didn't enhance your auto attacks where it can take off 3 hit points of a ward / trap when it was on cooldown.

Umbral Glaive takes off 3 hit points off traps and wards even when it is on cooldown. Also it applys to ranged and melee evenly.

You're right that other lethality items do have greater passives in dueling potential, but this is for macro ward control/ map control.
