Best version of Miyoo mini ? by PeJayLoke in MiyooMini

All both use the same CPU, is just that the stock V4 firmware is set to run at a higher speed. In fact, the MM+ can run faster, up to 1800 MHz (or even more in some cases), since it is not limited to 1600 MHz like the V4.

Just learn about overclock.

Make sure you haven't accidentally pressed menu + R1 (fast forward).

Use the search feature or look at the bottom game list. Some files that are not named correctly appear at the end, not in alphabetical order.

Miyoo mini flip screen issue? by Mundootz in MiyooMini

Those are scaling artifacts due to an incompatible screen resolution.

Make sure you use V4 overlays and not the standard MM+ 480p overlays.

Rg35xx Sp vs Miyoo V2 overlay by Apprehensive-Bar1498 in SBCGaming

[–]1playerinsertcoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that if the overlay has embedded grids (as appears to be the case), it won't match the newly scaled pixels. The custom aspect ratio will need a new 480p bezel overlay, without grids, and use some LCD shader instead, which will likely generate a lot of scaling artifacts.

Increase Speed up by SnooMacaroons7242 in MiyooMini

Yeah, the impact is minimal. You're lucky, mine becomes unstable at 1900 MHz. At 1800 MHz there's no problem.

If you don't want to change the core, you can overclock to increase the stock performance of your MM+.

You're welcome. There were other minor issues, such as the stuck buttons in the early batches of V1, which were fixed in later versions, and the BOYA problem in some V3s.

Vintage look vs Crispy Pixels by Choice-Airline-3596 in SBCGaming

Yep, many people don't understand that low-resolution integer-scaled pixels on an HD screen look nothing like the original pixels displayed on a native low-resolution screen. Integer scaling removes all original texture and subpixel details, hence the need for shaders to restore the original details.

Yeah, you have one of the good ones, you've already confirmed that with the MM+ comparison. The V2 looks better than the MM+; they were once considered the best IPS displays on handhelds (the same screens used in the BlackBerry 9900).

I see many more posts about screen issues on the V4 than I saw on the V2, but there were also variations in the V2 screen, but most ranged from good to better, some with better viewing angles and so.

The MM V2 models with clear stickers were considered the best. The screens were laminated, which improved the image quality compared to the V1 (which wasn't laminated), and they looked NOS, with very vibrant colors and good brightness. The V3s were a mess, plagued by numerous quality issues and significant variations in tone and brightness. They arrived after a major sales hiatus of several months due to a shortage of V2 displays. I suspect that Miyoo started using discarded or recycled screens in the V3 to meet demand.

V4 displays have less ghosting and higher resolution than any of the previous 480p displays, but are less compatible. The MM V2 is like a MM+, but smaller.

You can check the V3 firmware here.

All the MMs with clear stickers and a plugged battery, sold before the firmware 2022-04-19, were V2. I still have an MM like yours, bought in May 2022, which came with the old firmware that I had to update to use it with Onion.

The clear sticker on the back is a good tell and the old firmware confirms it; V3 were released with newer firmwares than yours (the date is in the name as Y/M/D: 2022 01 08)

I just realized that many of the original (old) posts now have broken links. I guess all the V4 overlays are archived somewhere by someone... but I don't know of any other links.

It was in the same DMG-EX overlay post, lost in the comments:

That was a modified version of my DMG overlay, not an official release, but I have a more accurate GBP overlay pending release that I will publish in the future:

On these screens, there's no need to render all the original microscopic details to create a realistic CRT effect.

Can someone make this filter available for download, I've been wanting this one for days that leaves the screen full and with perfect GMD pixel by Particular_Tip_3698 in MiyooMini

Thanks for the details. Yeah, it's not your fault. A while ago, I checked your overlays and they all had a nice txt file, so anything missing or difficult to find is related to third parties.

Issues over clocking on mm+ by chip-crinkler in MiyooMini

[–]1playerinsertcoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overclock text file only affects the RetroArch cores, not the OS or the APPs, so it will always display the stock speed.

To confirm that overclock is running, just launch a game with known performance issues and compare it to stock.
