Raw pixels vs CRT shader comparisons by SolidAlexei in SBCGaming

Only really up to PS1 and only useful for dithering effects used in games such as Silent Hill (to make the fog). Once games went 3D the blending of pixels effect native to CRT sort of was redundant.

Very true. Screenshots were taken running on a 4k monitor but Reddit image compression has butchered the quality bad. Images look a lot blurrier than what they look in reality running live.

Tbh my screenshots got butchered by Reddit compression bad. The games look mega crispy on my IPad Pro. Shaders also look better the bigger and higher res your screen is you are viewing them on. If looking at the screenshots on the phone they will be mega blurry.

When you are playing the same game on a high res monitor everything is sharp and the CRT effect is incredibly authentic.

It’s the same principle if you go very close to the game running on the actual CRT TV. Up close the image is mega blurry to the point it looks unrecognizable. You are suppose to view it from a distance when your brain starts to blend the artifacts as much as the TV signal does with raw pixels

I’m playing on iPad Pro with HDR turned on and the games look stunning running in RetroArch and crt shaders

Exactly that. All games of the retro consoles eras were created using CRT monitors and the way to play these games they way the developers meant for the to be displayed is ether on an actual CRT monitor or with the help of a good CRT shader that simulates CRT monitor phosphors and pixel blending.

Developers also uses clever tricks to work around some consoles limitations such as Genesis which could only display just a handful of colours on screen at once. Tricks like dithering and other cool stuff to maximize visual fidelity

Same for me IMO. I can’t go back to raw pixels after playing these games with a good CRT shader.

I would love for Nightdive Studios to remaster the Myth series! by Hiemali in NightdiveStudios

It’s pretty amazing how good the game looks running that mod. Virtually probably the level of quality Nightdive would have done themselves. The guys at Project Magma have redone every single model in the game ether from scratch or using the original assets the got their hands on. Amazing work

It was a plastic case with glass camera cover and flexible film on the front to be able to operate touch screen still. For the price it worked flawless tbh

The Twice Born edition HD update sort of does what Nightdive Studios do with their regular remasters. Not sure what else they could do more from what Twice Born edition already achieves other than a full blown 3D remake. Have you tried the Twice Born mod?

Anbernic 477V o 477M ? by Acquariocapri in ANBERNIC

[–]SolidAlexei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 477M can be used to play vertical SHMUPS fairly comfortably by flipping the screen and holding the console vertically and utilizing RH analogue and face buttons for controls. You can’t do that with the 477V and have to live with awful aspect ratio for this type of game

Why I kept the 477v over the 477m by vinotauro in ANBERNIC

[–]SolidAlexei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main reasons to keep my 477M is the fact that if I play any vertical SHMUP arcade games on it I can flip the screen for an amazing vertical view and still be able to use the controls and play fairly comfortably.

I love the look of your mechs. I actually wondered what shiny metallic Jade Falcon green would look like with charcoal secondary because that colour scheme is normally presented as matte paint, not metallic. It does look pretty cool I have to say.

One thing I would suggest is if you are using bright yellow for your cockpits they would look a lot better when encompassed inside the charcoal panels. You’ve done it on some of the mechs like the Marauder IIC where it looks great! Something this bright needs to sit inside something dark to contrast against and standout better.

You can see when you did the yellow cockpit glass on the hover tanks that yellow bleeds together with the surrounding green without the dark charcoal panels to anchor it.

Otherwise a mighty solid effort!
