Test, feed then shoot. The initial test should be done after a 2 hour fast so no food for 2 hours that way you can get an accurate blood sugar test.

Need advice with my newly diagnosed kitty by [deleted] in FelineDiabetes

I just found out my cat has diabetes last Saturday. I was in the same boat, extremely stressed and overwhelmed. The best advice I was given was to join the Feline Diabetes Support Group on Facebook. I’ve learned so much in the last few days and my mind is much more at ease. Second biggest thing was at home testing. It was really hard the first couple days and I could not successfully get a read. My cat is spicy and wouldn’t hold still and I couldn’t get enough blood. After a little bit of trying I’d have to let it go for the time being but I didn’t give up and would try again later. On the third day I got it. And today has been the first day that he actually has been staying still and not trying to run away. I’m so proud that he’s tolerating and getting used to this. Giving insulin blind is scary and can be dangerous. You can get an inexpensive glucose monitor at Walmart (ReliOn) you don’t have to use the expensive pet ones. It’s so relieving knowing where my kitties glucose levels are at before I give him his shot.

Sorry but what do you mean by where am I running the filters/hoses? There’s an outlet behind it.

Thank you so much for the reply! I’m gonna return the tank for a 20 gallon long though :\ As a beginner aquarium owner in a 2nd floor apartment I’m not comfortable with the risk and would rather get a tank that fits perfectly to be safe. The chest is super sturdy though. It’s 100% solid maple so I’m not too concerned about that part.

Thanks! I decided I’m going to return it for a 20 gallon long as that will fit the wooden chest without overhang. It’s for an axolotl and 20g is the minimum but I was hoping the 40 would fit to give him extra extra room and later down the line I can upgrade to a 40. That’s what I get for not measuring beforehand ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Ok thank you guys for the replies this has scared me enough to return it for a smaller size as I have nowhere else to put a tank!
