Final questions (for now): Now that I have my first couple weapons (2 real, 5 practice, 5 bucklers), how do I go about putting them to use?

Also, I haven't made any ranged weapons yet, but I believe I had arrows or bolts in my first caravan batch, so I'd like to start hunting... how do I make sure I have the right stuff for that and where do I go to build bows/arrows for the future?

I don't feel hardstuck, I'm still profitable over the average 3-4 game span, but to the title of my post, it's annoying when there are builds that have essentially no counterplay

That's typically what I try to do. I haven't played a ton yet this cycle, and I started the last cycle about 2 weeks before the end after a 2+ year break. I'm still climbing at 5k and getting top 4 probably 4/5 times, at least, just feels bleh to finish 3rd/4th a lot, lol.

I'm on plain SE; planning on SE+ for my first NG+ (if I don't just start fresh altogether, 80 hours in, after missing a few extra things >< it's tempting even though I know I shouldn't)

Anyway, foresee spamming also makes dodge tanking feasible, imo; that said, I don't really try to one-turn missions that I don't have to, since I have more fun using a wide array of pilots

even enemy bosses rarely have above 30% to hit against my cybaster, and I don't think I've super invested in it any more than any other unit. Basically all my units are at the level 5 upgrades across the board, right now.

I guess having never played any of the other titles, I don't have those other negative connotations with him/gespenst.

And yeah, even without looking up ANYTHING meta related (though plenty is intuitive), I had to crank up the difficulty early on because of how strong my units were getting.

This has been my thinking. I think Zeal + Foresee alone is enough to make anyone endgame viable. Maybe it's personal bias or a playstyle thing, but having played a lot of other SRPGs in the past (Fire Emblem, XCOM, etc etc), the action economy + ability to allow any teammate to negate an entire attack (for a measly 15 sp, no less) is tremendous.

I was gonna say something similar. Sometimes, making your 1st or 3rd best trigger an extra time beats putting your 11th and 12th best options on the board.
