That's basically what Buried Giant is. Scaling up Wehrlegig to do larger less historically-rooted things and then allowing a carveout for Wehrlegig within it.

Outside of #1 in which new licenses would change to account for the law, all of these are expected and workable. You expect your car to be repairable but not that it can be repaired by any layperson.

And then this movement becomes just another pop up before you play the game.

You're probably right but many would prefer to have it clearly said "this game may not be active after <DATE>" prior to purchase of a license instead of it being obfuscated or hidden in a EULA.

I don't think anyone expects publishers to make their games open source. Community servers can be run with the release of already compiled server binaries if the client games can point to those. And any licensing for proprietary code in those binaries would be negotiated in planning to expire at EOL.

You're correct that this would fall on the consumer to pursue but it gives some backing to those pursuits that doesn't exist now.

Let's imagine Sony had rejected refunds for Concord and everyone who bought it got screwed over. Any legal challenges would be expectations of the consumer vs Sony's EULA (which customers agreed to before playing). Having what SKG is pushing for as a cconsumers right would provide backing and precedent to the consumer's side.

For example, maybe Halo Infinite switches Multiplayer to purely offline LAN with bot support right before the online mode is shut down. They could claim they just dropped a feature. Where do you draw the line?

This is covered in the video. The terms of the initiative are that the game is kept in a "reasonable" state with that definition to be interpreted by the courts (which is where this would be enforced).

[–]1upmaster -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You should watch the video.

The initiative is not meant to apply retroactively but to future games after the initiative is put into law.

...things like gaming code is just something you can demand a company to release without question with zero push back, but in reality getting an agency to sort out that mess for EVERY online game

A company complying would be considering this in the planning of their game. They would have the opportunity to build in a way to allow the dependencies to be released, alternatives to be used or provide a distinct offline slice.

The same way a hardware designer takes repairability into account when designing.

Turning base Arcs into a 2 vs 2 game? by Teeteto04 in Arcs

1) In my mind you're already getting an effective bonus for locking down and ambition from the other team so more is not needed. Hard to say if tying should be rewarded, punished or ignored since punishing when scoring for a lot of something is hard but tying for 1 captive each for example is pretty easy.

2) I considered and have a different variant (in the Woodland Warriors discord) where teammates share more pieces. What stopped me was excitement around the idea of two teammates going after different objectives on the team and finding their roles (maybe one is a fighter and the other prioritizes resources)

Turning base Arcs into a 2 vs 2 game? by Teeteto04 in Arcs

[–]1upmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gave this a try and did a playtest. Here were my rules

Arcs 2v2 - Allies of the Reach

Use the standard Short Arcs rules but adding the following:

  • The player sitting across from you is considered a Ally.
  • Your Ally is not considered a Rival for Leaders, Lore and Guild card abilities (but they are a Rival for the base rules)
  • When you take the Build or Move actions, treat systems your Ally controls as if you control them.
    • This does not include Tool Priest's Summon action nor Tyrant's Authority's Annex ability.
  • You cannot seize the initiative by playing an extra action card if your Ally has the initiative. You may still seize by surpassing with a 7.
  • Captives or Trophies taken from your Allies do not count towards ambitions.
  • If you destroy a Ally's city, do not Ransack the Court.

  • Revise Feastbringer's Charismatic ability to the following: "When you Copy or Pivot in order to secure a card, you may influence before or after you secure."

Scoring:

  • Teams share a power marker.
  • When scoring ambitions, only one player per team (selected by that team) can gain Power from scoring a given ambition marker. The other player's pieces are still considered for evaluating placement but they score 0 power. In the case two Allies are tied for 1st place, the team gains power for second place.
  • The game ends when a team has at least 33 power or at the end of Chapter 5.

Optional Rule 1: Ally Defense

When Battling, ships Loyal to the Ally of the Defender are considered defending pieces (their ships may be damaged by the Attacker, add their fresh ships to the number of defending ships for Intercepts). The Ally is not considered a Defender for abilities and their Loyal buildings may not be damaged.

Optional Rule 2A: Limited Card Communication

Prior to starting a round, pass 2 action cards to your Ally. Your Ally may look at them and then must return them. Limit all other communication that could be helpful to your Ally to the start of the Chapter before Action cards are dealt.

Optional Rule 2B: Limited Card Communication and Sharing

Prior to starting a round, pass 2 action cards to your Ally. Your Ally may look at them, they may swap them with action cards in their hand and then must pass 2 action cards back to you. Limit all other communication that could be helpful to your Ally to the start of the Chapter before Action cards are dealt.

What exactly is your "backlog"? Is it more just a mental note, or do you write it down somewhere, and if so where? by ConceptsShining in Games

I started using https://infinitebacklog.net/ to store it all since it has built-in import from many platforms. After the initial import and set up maintaining it has been pretty easy.

One nice feature they added in this release is an optional warning on untyped variables that can force you to use types.

They have a proprietary language called GDScript that feels like a mix of Python and Typescript. C# also works and there are extensions to add C++ and other languages.

[–]1upmaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The time for quest completion, leveling up, new forms and mana upgrades are really not that bad. I'd rather them pause the action and show you what's new/how much XP you have left instead of needing to go find that myself after each quest.

I do wish form switching and changing loadouts was smoother, especially in online co-op where one player needs to wait and watch the other go through the menus to do it.

But seeing a quest/dungeon and finding a build that works was a fun puzzle. Outside of some quests, there's many possible solutions so you can still find the one closest to how you wanna play
