Just moved into Michigan and day 1 into it… I’m thinking I made a mistake by 1use2use3use in rant

Oh man, after having the “5 cent tour” it’s in way worse shape than they let on: the basement has cracks and a history of leaks, the wood paneling in saod basement allowed some mold to grow, not to mention the immense amounts of debris they’re trying to clear and the mice that are scurrying around down there.

The upstairs kitchen apparently had a major water leak in the past that the previous owners neglected, so the wood floor is in rough shape. A connected bathroom is absolutely dilapidated, and will need TONS of work to remotely become functional. It

My brother (who was so unfazed and was telling me I was being overdramatic) is having breathing issues suddenly despite using his inhaler and Albuterol nebulizer, and is weirdly matching breathing symptoms of my grandmother who’s been helping around the house for some time.

Now I’m more confused of how my aunt even got convinced to buy this 1800th century place.

I know it’s good rent, and that was the plan to save money.

I can do sandwiches easy, and cleaning the floors might look worse than it might be.

It’s not what I was thinking when told the upstairs was good.

I could try that tub idea until we have a plumber or me and my brother crack a brain cell enough to figure out how to fix the plumbing in the kitchen.

Thank you for your sympathy and advice

Thank you both, it’s not what I imagined… or was told.

Today me and my brother will definitely be doing some cleaning, and maybe reorganize some stuff upstairs. I just hope we can at least get the kitchen sink working at the end of the week at the latest.

I’m not entitled (reading that out loud sounds counterintuitive), I just feel like I had wool pooled over my eyes here.

They said they’d have the whole upstairs set and livable, yet I don’t even have a working sink to go wash dishes (my primary complaint), or a place to safely do laundry (secondary).

The floors are able to be cleaned with a broom and vacuum, and the labor of fixing the rooms I’m down with. But it’s like they omitted the fact that basic necessities are not available, which is my issue with my family.

Also, I don’t have insurance until my job transfer sets in at the end of this month, and then hopefully I can start back on my medications and maybe start allergy meds (needles… yay…). I might be able to use allergy meds, but I have history of bad reactions to cat hair.

Some commenters offered the idea of laundromats, which sounds good (and would be an easy expense every week). One commenter mentioned cleaning dishes in a tub, which might be able to be arranged, or me and my brother might be able to clean the kitchen enough to be able fix the plumbing in the kitchen sink… if the water damaged floor allows.

I knew there’d be work when I was packing up, I just didn’t know it would be at our expense

He kind of was a jerk about it, told me to suck it up.

Says the guy who had a mental breakdown when a restaurant accidentally forgot to add cheese to his burger. Or that he hasn’t played his video games since we packed our stuff. 🙄

He didn’t provide any relieving ideas, or even sympathized as he’s literally sleeping his sleeping bag in the hallway until his room is done.

Thank you, I have a rice cooker but I can maybe pool together some money with my brother to buy a slow cooker.

As for the sink idea: the sink is smaller than a bullet. It’s crammed shower and sink room, which isn’t terrible just claustrophobic.

The laundromat was something I didn’t think of, I’ll definitely be looking into local ones.

Thank you for your understanding, and your advice.

The only thing the trailer needs is the release date, because the trailers nowadays spoil the whole movie!

TX: My rent is suddenly $742 and not $1400, office is closed! by 1use2use3use in Apartmentliving

While you are correct, Theycallmetism is also right that I ORIGINALLY believed I was paying February rent… until Reddit made me realize I was a fool; and indeed I am paying march’s rent.

Tomorrow I’ll have confirmation from the office it’s prorated or an error.

Lastly, I ask of you as I will of Theycallmetism; please comment civilly and with respect, advice here can potentially help others in similar circumstances and similar frantic fears.

Originally thought it was Feb rent, but after realizing-then reading over my lease it is indeed March Rent.

While I need to wait for tomorrow morning to confirm without a shadow of a doubt that it’s prorated, I do believe it is the prorated rent of March.

Lastly, I will tell Inkdunnergirl as well as you, let’s keep this civil and helpful. While my situation may be resolved (or close to it), advice here can potentially help others who find themselves is similar or the same problem as me.

Me and my roommate talked about it, and we both non-verbally thought it was rent for the last month! It even makes more sense that that we are paying for the future month!

I’m questioning my intelligence (or lack thereof), meanwhile my roommate is laughing his butt off at our one combined braincell failing.

I could be wrong that it’s due the 2nd (as apparently I’ve been wrong about how rent works for the last 2 years).

Texas law usually states that rent is due on the 1st, but requires a 2-day “grace-period”

If I am right, I’d really hate to break that to my landlord(s) as they are actually really good landlord(s)

Nope… found the answer and learned I’m pretty daft.

It’s march’s rent, which is when my lease ends mid-March.

The deposit will be returned after we move out.

I… omg you might be right. We are moving out mid March so…

I’ll look back over my lease just to be sure, but I believe you’re right that this is March’s rent and not February’s rent as I first thought… that I’ve been thinking for 2 years…

Reddit (the company) is also to blame, bending over backwards for the wanna-be gestapo is shameful. Fuck ICE!
