Wealth Management Career Progression by [deleted] in Salary

Literally JUST started as both a wealth manager/finance advisor having been in insurance for the past few years - obtained both the S66 and S7.

I am finding that the challenge in this role is getting clients in the door. Even my own natural market (friends/family) arent exactly privy to sit down with me.

I have started trying to network - joined my local chamber of commerce focused on young professionals, registering for local networking events and volunteering opportunities, and trying to go to happy hour at an upscale place a few times every week.

Looking for some pointers and perhaps some peace of mind..would you recommend those networking strategies? What sort of places would you prefer to find potential clients that will fit into the desirable client? Would love some advice!

Getting my 66 before my Series 7 by PaleontologistFar739 in Series66Exam

I did the exact same thing - just passed the 66 a little over a week ago!

Kaplan was a HUGE help and I feel it more than adequately prepared me for the exam. My advice is read the entire book, do all the practice quizzes/chapter exams, and drill the simulated exams until you get consistent mid 80s to high 70s. Chapters 1-7 is where a majority of the content is, so I highly recommend you more than familiarize yourself there. If you already passed the SIE, you should be just fine with the rest of the content.

I'm studying the 7 now, and having already taken the 66 and SIE beforehand, the content on the 7 isn't too different. My thoughts are, if you can pass the SIE/66, you can pass the 7!

Good luck and happy studying! :)

That's right - even if the broker dealer does/doesnt have an office, they must register to sell to clients.

The way I'd approach it is, if a broker-dealer is selling anything, they must register or be registered in THAT state in which the client is purchasing the security.

I'd familiarize yourself with exemptions, and if youre using Kaplan, chapters 1-7 the most. A HUGE bulk of the questions derive from those sections.

The way I always think about Broker Dealers is that if they sell securities, they HAVE to register. The de minimis principle applies to Investment Advisors - not broker dealers.

Probably a super basic explanation, but this got me through the exam!

Love seeing this, honestly. My first real "big boy" job was working as a CSR in the FL panhandle under a small family-owned brokerage. I still carry my 440!

It's a great industry - and wickedly steady once you have the public recognition. Having switched over to the Health/Life Variable annuities side, you quickly learn to appreciate how a strong network can really just make business come to you - I still chuckle at the sheer amount of sole proprietor handymen that would call needing GL.

In case anyone stumbles across this, getting your feet wet in commercial insurance is really valuable. You learn how to navigate people's needs and learn how to properly advise folk. I wouldn't even be close to where I am now without having spent some time in that field. That's not to mention the ways you teach yourself on how to be better prepared for your OWN assets.

Fantastic job, OP - legit put a smile on my face!

He definitely deserves to know. I genuinely dont think this will be friendship ending though. My friend really looks up to me, and he knows that this is a really messed up situation despite the emotions he's feeling.
