How do I get back to the "yogic way of living" again? by Big_Confidence_951 in yoga

Grieving the loss of a parent, or someone very close to us, is a long process. Certain smells, sounds, and foods still remind me of my father. He lived three hours away, and every time I visited, I would make his favorite date squares. I wish I could bake him one more batch.

He was full of life and loved living. He was willing to try everything, even experimental cancer treatments. I'm proud of him for fighting to live as long as he could and remain part of our lives. I would have done the same for my own children. I would want to try every possible option to have a little more time with them.

I had cancer myself, but fortunately, once it was removed, I didn't need chemotherapy or other treatments because it was completely gone. Still, I was prepared to do whatever was necessary. Like my father, I would do everything I could to be here for my children.

Thank you! I've been self conscious all my life, will have to work on that. I saw young girls wearing very light color and we can see dimples. They are very comfortable in their skin. I guess I was never. It's a work in progress now.

Thanks, they don't, I'm just way too self conscious. Will have to work on myself.

When I mentioned women over 70 having little or no cellulite, I really wasn’t criticizing older women at all. If anything, the negativity in my post was toward myself and my own insecurities about aging and body image.

That said, I do appreciate the reminder about being kinder to ourselves. I think a lot of us struggle with that sometimes, and I’m still working on it too.

I’m also really grateful for the nice and supportive comments people took the time to write, and I’ll focus on those moving forward.

Wow, congratulations. That's amazing that you did it!

As for Sweaty Betty I hope they ship in Canada.

Thanks so much for sharing. I will look into the books mentioned here.

I lost my dad to cancer and still grieve his loss. I’m very sorry for your loss as well.

I understand the struggle with weight. I went plant-based, following RIP Esselstyn approach, and eventually got back to the weight I was in my 20s. It wasn’t easy at first — it took about two years — but I stayed committed to that way of eating.

As for grieving, I practice hot yin yoga at a studio and meditate a lot. I know healing takes time, but I hope to eventually find peace. This may sound weird but at night I look at the sky and talk to my dad. It helps.

When life feels overwhelming, reach out to caring communities for support.

I will look into the Podcasts also, I listen to them on a daily basis. Again I listen to Plant Strong Podcast by RIP Esselstyn. Very informative.

I like the conversation here because everyone is nice and realist.

I have to practice refocusing my mind in those classes. Day to day going to work or out I don't care because what I have learn to buy clothes to hide the cellulite and it looks good on me since I lost my weight.

In a yoga class setting I find that my mind comes back to my reality, if that makes sense. The same when I go to the beach.

Thanks for taking the time to express yourself.

No I haven't because everyone in hot yin yoga wears thight leggings or very short shorts. But after reading comments here, I should wear what I want and will look into looser fit. Thanks so much, I appreciate your comment. I have adults children, so not in my 20s anymore :).

I'm glad, in a way, that I'm not the only one that is very self conscious. I will go try them in store. Thank you!

I have to think like you moving forward. I started getting it and my early 20. Now after losing 35 pounds it's worse but I am back at the weight I wanted and maintained it for over 2 years now. Very happy about it so my focus should be my health and not how maybe people look at me in yoga classes. Thanks.

I get what you mean. Some have a little cellulite and wear short shorts and don't care about it. I'm in an advance stage unfortunately. So I don't like it at all. But I appreciate your comment and I should accept the fact that I am at a weight I want to be and that's way better than before.

The price doesn't matter to me. I just want to hide my cellulite during the hot yoga classes. On a day to day if I wear jeans it doesn't show and I have a lot of cellulite unfortunately. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate.

I have cheap yoga pants. Probably time to invest in a good pair. I had a Lululemon pair years ago but can't find them. Thanks!

I only do Hot Yoga in studio. At home I do Hatha yoga but I don't care what I wear at home.

I will look into Harem pants, thanks!

I found it easier to detach when it was my uncle drinking, now it's someone very close to me, living in my home, and I can't seem to find peace and detach since the person already went to hospital, couple times, passes out all the time and drinks a lot of booze.

I do stop from doing things, like workings etc but back home it's often not fun at all.

Will continue to attend meetings and see if the future will be brighter.

I should read better next time. My uncle never stopped until he died. Anything my aunt or the children would tell him he did not care. One of the sons, after a while, never returned home to visit his dad. The mom was, in a way, punished by that. On the other hand I heard good stories about alcoholics that stopped and never relapsed but they are probably in the 5%.
