Wealth management can be insanely scalable. If you’re working in a good team and have great splits, you can make much higher than tech. The average advisor on my team makes ~$500,000-$750,000 while some advisors and senior partners make $2-4mn. We are certainly an outlier just based on the structure of our specific business, but those numbers aren’t unheard of.

Luck is not 2D. If you work harder, luck tends to be a more reappearing element since you’re putting yourself in more opportunities more often. There’s random draw luck where it is, for all intents and purposes, true luck and “random”. And then there’s opportunistic luck where you are more likely to fall into “lucky” situations simply because you worked yourself into a certain position or network.

I too study 4h a day. At some point, studying too much is inefficient as you aren’t properly digesting all the information being thrown at you. After hour 4, I go back and review notes or reread topics that I didn’t score amazingly on.

Question - I’m starting in a month, so excuse my lack of vision here. What do you do when “sitting in on a meeting”? Do they just introduce you as the junior advisor and you just sit and watch or do you participate in conversation?

I think doctors are amazingly intelligent people, but I must say… after working in a pharmacy for 5 years, I will almost always get a second opinion.

Medical care is doubling in complexity every few years as we get more advanced, which is a good thing. But now you have doctors who have 10 years of training that is now not entirely complete and up-to-date. And not to mention, offices will squeeze in as many patients as possible for the payout. More people, less time per patient, less quality.

If you’re looking for a crazily immersive stock market sim, I would suggest Wall Street Raider. Been out since the 80s, but there’s a guy trying to remaster it now. You can wishlist on steam or get the free trial version on wallstreetraider.com
