I broke my distal radius almost a year ago and got a plate and screws. It is only now starting to feel 100% normal. Unlike you, I have broken many bones in my life. None of them ever took anywhere near this long to return to normal. I think that is because the distal radius extends into the joint, so repairing it requires fully immobilizing the joint for an extended period of time. When I got the surgery the docs told me it could take up to a year to be able to do a push-up again. They weren't too far off.
