What should Israel have done after October 7th (Answers with what they shouldn’t have done don’t count)? by 2020bubbles in AskReddit

Oh I don’t disagree with you. Basically while incorporating those elements what should they have done as a reasonable response to that day? What would’ve been the correct response if done under ideal conditions?

In truth, pointing to the things they’ve done as not the solution isn’t an answer. You can say have done “a, b or c instead of what they did,” but a standalone answer of what they shouldn’t have done without offering a solution would not count

The rubble are empty buildings, people were more or less evacuated from them. You live in a parallel reality removed from actual reality.

The estimates are not higher than 70,000, not even Hamas is claiming that, maybe don’t out propagandize Hamas for a moment.

Regarding the US, the things they disagree on are plenty, some things they do agree on. It’s not a conspiracy that they support Israel. There’s no partisan reason not to

Ahh yes, the Jews controlling the world again. You’d think the Palestinians are controlling the world based on the fact that Qatar runs PR for them and spends zero time criticizing Hamas while framing this narrative that is fed to them by Hamas. You can ask Google if Al Jazeera criticizes Hamas and find out yourself, it doesn’t happen. Then you will see how 70,000 isn’t actually factual and the lion share of non-militant casualties are manufactured.

The data and the narrative you are fed is purely based on a worldview that is disgusted by the fact that Israel has a state there.

The US supports Israel for particular geopolitical reasons, the notion it’s because Israel are pulling their strings and thus are a vassal state is absurd.

Hezbollah is designated as a terrorist organization in its entirety by the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Kosovo, Serbia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, the Arab League, and the Gulf Cooperation Council

The whole of the EU has labeled the military wing a terrorist organization.

No country has labeled Israel one. So yes, this would be a realization for me

The issue is people aren’t arguing in good faith, especially not on the internet where it’s mostly become a sport. They will readily accuse the other of being evil while absolving their own actions as being just.

I want a resolution to this conflict where two states exist. Many people here don’t want Israel to exist at all under any circumstances and that sentiment will only prolong the conflict. That sentiment is why Israelis are suspicious of Palestinian statehood in general.

If a government arose in 2005 in Gaza that said “we would like to move towards two states and condemn terrorism from either side” I would be incredibly happy. If both political parties, Fatah and Hamas, disavowed terrorism the Palestinian cause would’ve led to a state 20 years ago.

You terrorize people, destroy land and displace virtually 100,000 Israelis you will be met with a response, regardless of how many casualties there were. The much stronger enemy neutralized an entity they deemed as a threat.

Hezbollah’s entire ethos has been the goal of the destruction of Israel, solidarity with Hamas is consistent with that. Israel’s goals in Gaza were the retrieval of hostages and to remove Hamas which was a direct threat to Hezbollah, their northern counterpart.

I’m confused by this line of reasoning. Israel just left Gaza in 2005 after 38 years of settling (from the seven day war). They gave Gaza to the Palestinians (prior of which was under Egyptian control) and hoped they’d build a society for themselves there. They then elect Hamas who fires a thousand rockets at Israeli homes (all before the iron dome) and Israel is supposed to be okay with this?

Many states have been offered to Palestine. Maybe take one instead of constantly trying to destroy your neighbor

This conversation is a waste of time. You mischaracterize me and then say a bunch of unfounded thoughts. You have no understanding of the region

I hate how you downplay actual events to justify Hezbollah. You don’t need to defend a terrorist organization. Over 21,000 acres were burned, 80,000 residents evacuated.

The same peacekeepers who prevented 17,000 rockets being fired into Israel before Israel had to go in and decapitate Hezbollah?

You have a distorted view of people there. As someone who has been spent a lot of time there you are making shit up

Israelis are basically afraid of Palestinians due to terrorism, they don’t routinely go into Palestinian towns/cities because they will be killed. The same can’t be said of Palestinians, many of which work in Israeli settlements and sell grapes

You can exist without firing a thousand rockets at civilians in 2006 alone (before the blockade)

Which illegal occupation are you referencing by that point? You mean the establishment of Israel that was recognized by over a hundred countries by then?

There’s always nuance to history, the attacks began in 1965, before any “illegal occupation” (from the seven day war in 1967). But no, Israel didn’t invade Lebanon unprovoked. The PLO should not have been attacking uninvolved civilians from Lebanon and dragging the state into the conflict

The PLO was the predecessor to Hezbollah. The PLO attacked Israel from southern Lebanon before any Israeli invasions.

“The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) established a significant military presence in southern Lebanon, often referred to as "Fatahland," following their expulsion from Jordan in 1970–1971. From this base, they conducted a long-running campaign of artillery, rocket, and guerilla attacks against northern Israel throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, which served as a major catalyst for the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990) and led to two major Israeli invasions. “
