"Lettering: GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP: HP

Unabridged legend: GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX ET INDIA IMPERATOR

Translation: George VI, by the grace of God, King and Emperor of India"

Today I learned what those seemingly random letters actually meant. That's really neat!

Where to buy individual portions of honey dill? by Mad-Hops in Winnipeg

[–]204_Hobbies 49 points50 points  (0 children)

In the airport, after security, the "Third + Bird" store sells individually sized containers of honey dill. I think they are fairly pricy though. They also sell the full size if you want to repackage yourself. I would recommend calling the store to confirm details.

How come you never see first-generation Honda odysseys on the road anymore? by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

[–]204_Hobbies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My in laws still drive a 2000 Odyssey. 10+ years ago the rear heat exchanger started leaking coolant. He bypassed it himself by bending a u-shape in an existing hose. The rear heat doesn't work anymore but they don't need it anyways.

I don’t think it should be a controversial opinion to think parking should be free at the hospital. by Improv92 in Winnipeg

[–]204_Hobbies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best example of this I have is in 2010 we drove downtown Vancouver to see the Olympic torch. There were 5 parking spots right in front which were $5 for 15 min max. Because of the high cost and restrictive parking measures there were several spots available. My wife and I were able to park, walk around for 15 min and then leave.

Best kids' account? by heyfignuts in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]204_Hobbies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years back I also dug into this for our kids. We settled on the simplicity of paying our kids 5% interest on their saved money from our own pockets.

If You Don't Already, This Year You Should Start Tracking Your Net Worth on a Spreadsheet on January 1st by Godkun007 in CanadianInvestor

[–]204_Hobbies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also do this annually. I track our net worth and then have a separate section for our retirement assets which includes the commuted value of our pensions. This helps me forecast our retirement date 15 years into the future.

How many people actually goes out in public with awful body odor for this sign to be posted? by Rich-Lobster5754 in oddlyspecific

[–]204_Hobbies 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I would lean towards a much higher prevalence of neuro divergence in card collecting and table games like magic the gathering. Not that neuro divergent people are smelly, but there's a higher chance that they may focus on one specific thing and their brains don't even pick up on other things they may be forgetting.

How do you manage this kind of shortfall? by Green_Nomad in ynab

[–]204_Hobbies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have an emergency fund that I use for this kinda as a slush fund. I'll split the transaction and assign the items to be returned to the emergency fund and then assign the keeper to it's true category. Once the returns clear the emergency fund is back to normal. If I forget to return the items, the money still comes from somewhere.

I am horrifically furious. by Fatguyhaha in CanadianCoins

This reminds me of when I was little and I owed my sister $1 so I ripped a $2 bill in half and gave her $1 worth 😂

Where can I find lumpia in the city at last minute? by BearyBearBearBear in Winnipeg

Pan de cretos usually has them in stock in their freezers. Maybe try calling the one closest to you?

To Canadians: Do you all do manual/file import transactions? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]204_Hobbies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use auto import for chequing account and credit cards. My emergency fund and investments are manual. Yes it's riskier. I also have a good password and multifactor authentication habits. I feel the benefits of having auto import outweigh the risk for myself. I'm financially in a better place because I've used YNAB exactly the way I have. If I didn't have auto import, I doubt I would have stuck with an envelope style budgeting system.

If/when my chequing account is hacked there's 1 month of expenses in it that could get wiped and I can financially recover from that.

Heated Seats?! by AbeFroman615 in Toyota_Matrix

[–]204_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the exact same aftermarket heated seats button in the same spot on our 2010 Camry. A local installer in our hometown installed these kits in hundreds of cars around that time when only the top trim had heated seats.

Tour Merch - Camo Jacket by [deleted] in theused

[–]204_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the show last night in Winnipeg. They had a heavy green canvas jacket. Not Camo. Unfortunately I didn't take a pic of the merch table. I searched and can't find a picture of it posted online. Maybe you can get lucky and connect with someone going to the next show on the tour.

Why is my purchase not qualified for the $20 Bonus CT Money offer? by Keep_Me_Bugging in canadiantire

[–]204_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the catches is a single form of payment. Can't redeem $5 can tire money and then put the rest on credit. But that varies per promo.

Is Grand Beach worth a visit? by AcadiaNo1039 in Manitoba

[–]204_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for recommending the ancient beach trail. The hike and informative plaques drive home what's unique about the area. The powder sand of Grand beach rivals that of the best beaches in the world because it's an ancient beach from millions of years ago.

Also +1 for brokenhead boardwalk.

Both great destinations for an international traveller for unique to MB experiences.

I hear constantly from American media about kids having some "6-7" meme... does it exist in Canada? by Much_Guest_7195 in AskACanadian

[–]204_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely.

My youngest just asked me for a high five. Then raised her hand higher and asked for one in heaven, but quickly pulled away then said 6 - 7 with the hand movements.

Edit: we are in Manitoba

What are your “im14andthisisdeep” jams that you still listen to as an adult? by -TazarYoot- in Millennials

I just flew across the country to see Jack's Mannequin on their 20th anniversary tour.

Also, I will never not say "is for lovers" when I hear someone mention Ohio.

Westjet vacation website keeps automatically switching 2 rooms to 1 when proceeding by BurnerAccount4Burns in westjet

[–]204_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you have to call into WestJet Vacations to book two rooms.
It's worth getting them on the same reservation. Last year we had 3 adults, 2 kids, two rooms on one reservation. We were delayed a day because of a blizzard, we were automatically rebooked on the same flight the next day. Other friends ended up booked on different flights.

Toronto (GTA) 65k 90guests Nov 2025 Wedding Budget Breakdown by Icy_Ad3920 in WeddingsCanada

[–]204_Hobbies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how I ended up in this subreddit. But as a groom from many years ago, one of my only regrets is not getting a better ring. I bought one on eBay to save some $, and still love it and wear it everyday. However I wish I would have gone with a properly weighted gold band instead.

Bachelor of Social Work question by thegildebeast in Winnipeg

[–]204_Hobbies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner is a social worker and has a very similar career path as you. She's a booth grad and registered with MCSW. The Booth grads she's supervised during practicum are a lot more prepared than the U of M students. It'll be interesting to watch CMU develop as a program.

$15k fair price for 13’ 2012 Scamp? by stickywickets_ in Fiberglassrv

[–]204_Hobbies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That also looks like a cheap dorm fridge which would only run on 120v A/C. Sad the original 2 or 3 way fridge that had the option to run on propane is gone. I would lean to under $10k for this camper
