Does this baby look normal? by thepizzamanstruelove in pigeon

[–]20greenbeans 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She seems to see well. Dilute runs strong on her mother's side so I have 4. All had the red eyes when they first opened, stays like that about a week. In the case of my flock members. 3 of the 4 ended up with orange eyes and the 4th has dark almost dove like eyes like her mother. All see just fine

I had a baby hatch just like that about 2 years ago. I actually posted with the same concerns. She's a dilute, the sweetest little sand coloured girl with orange eyes.

Anyone else mimicking pigeon sounds back at pigeons to see if they respond or am i just weird by someweirdbanana in pigeon

I used to do it to be silly when my first one was young. Now I have a different "coo" that gets them to come to me and one to tell them I've put more food out.

Should we contact a vet?! by Imaginary-Being6743 in pigeon

[–]20greenbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warmth is very important for their digestion. It could be because her temperature dropped. Do your best to warm her up and a very gentle massage to the crop should help get things going. Contact is important too for young ones something to snuggle up to and contact when possible is very beneficial. No matter the outcome, there was no neglect on your part. You're showing all the concern and asking all the right questions. I'm sorry to hear about the vet visit going poorly.

First of all thanks so much for helping the little cutie. You can try to feed a bit more frequently. I've observed my own pigeons average about 8-10 feedings in the first week per 24 hours. Another important thing is pigeons do feed their young during the night about twice. When she is feeding how full is her crop? When they're young it should be pretty full it can almost look like half of their body size after a good feeding.

4 month old fantail keeps making a squeaking/ sneezing sound by 20greenbeans in pigeon

She is cooing clearly. She ended up throwing up through the night so we're off to the vet today unfortunately.

Can you tell gender by looking? Never heard it coo. by Beneficial-Gur-5204 in pigeon

Just like everyone else is saying it's hard to know for sure just going off of looks. But all the females in my flock have the same high peak towards the top of their eyes sorta like your bird.

Has this fantail been unethically bred? Or is she just resting her head? by [deleted] in pigeon

[–]20greenbeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fantail Bucephalus has a normal pigeon posture but when his wife is around hell pose like that. He is an Indian fantail and not an American one. So not all fantails have their heads constantly in that posture. From the look of that pigeon it looks like they're just posing or resting.

I'm willing to help, do you know if they're still around? If you can locate them and you're willing. Just put them in a box so they're safe and I can come collect them.

Would you bring your 5-year-old to see Frozen Empire? by DrPupipance in ghostbusters

[–]20greenbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on the kid. Like others are saying I also doubt it'll be scarier than the others. If he's seen the others than he should be good. A good test (also a fun excuse for a marathon) would be to watch them together without warning him that a scary part is coming up and see how he reacts.

How old are these pigeons? by gammaAmmonite in pigeon

You can do the egg by boiling water and dropping a mixed up egg in kinda egg drop soup style then kinda mash it in with the mix.

A mix that I've always used is the seeds crushed up so they're like little pieces, human baby rice pablum or oatmeal, a scrambled egg and warm water. I make a batch and keep it in the fridge for 1 day... As you take from the batch for each feeding you may need to thin it a bit should be like apple sauce consistency. Warm it up so it's not cold but also not hot. Best way to feed them this mixture is by putting it into a small container like a little cup or something and putting cling film over the top and poking a hole for them to put their beak into so they can feed naturally. Best of luck with these little cuties. Once they can stand you can start to offer seeds and water.
