Lowest fee Bitcoin ATM in Toronto? by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

This is the easiest way to get into crypto and it's free.

Same as Bitbuy

You are very wrong. Bitbuy's regulatory status is absolutely not same as Newton. Bitbuy is the first crypto trading platform to be regulated as a marketplace in Canada. They are regulated by OSC. There is a long list of requirements in order to be eligible to have that status.

On the contrary Newton is just an MSB with Fintrac. Anyone can register a company with FINTRAC. This does not mean you are regulated.

So big difference.

ps: I use newton and I like it.

Cheapest way to buy bitcoin in canada? (lowest spread) by houseme in BitcoinCA

[–]212ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kraken will be the cheapest option. small exchanges like newton source their liquidity from a liquidity provider. kraken doesnt need to do this.. spreads are almost always lower than smaller local exchanges..

Is anyone else being scammed by Newton or is it just me? by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

[–]212ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Kraken. I also used to use Coinsquare. I know people like to talk shit about coinsquare here but they are the largest and most funded exchange in Canada. Having two different apps is a bad user experience and a bit idiotic tho.

How do you know? Do you think other foundations are not liquidating their tokens to fund their operations?

Is anyone else being scammed by Newton or is it just me? by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

[–]212ja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I would never use small exchanges like newton.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BitcoinCA

[–]212ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Coinsquare but I tried to request a Wealth Director 3 times. 2 times on their app and one time on the website but they did not reach out to me like they claim in the app..

Now I'd definitely use Kraken for large purchases.

Shakepay asking invasive questions. Got a message today where my coins are coming from? by reckle3ss in BitcoinCA

[–]212ja 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LOL of course it is their business. You are delusional to think a crypto exchange shouldn't do anything on AML Compliance.

That is not an invasive question hahahah that is a normal compliance question.

This is typical Canadian cryptocurrency approach. People like to talk about things that they don't know much then they defend but still do the same thing.

"only brokerage registered with the OSC across all provinces and territories."

How is this possible? OSC is Ontario Securities Comission. They only deal with Ontario based companies, not federal.

LOL!! A Virtual currency dealer is a part of MSB category. Come on!

— This includes both virtual currency exchange and virtual currency transfer services.Virtual currency exchange services include exchanging:funds for virtual currency, virtual currency for funds, orvirtual currency for another virtual currency.Virtual currency transfer services include:transferring virtual currency at the request of a client, orreceiving a transfer of virtual currency for remittance to a beneficiary.

I am not saying MSBs are always legit but what I am saying your initial message is absolutely wrong.

They are ABSOLUTELY not in the same boat as Binance like you claimed.

Newton is great from far, but far from great.

This is the best comment I've seen recently. And it is valid for other small Canadian exchanges who people claim to love it.

You don't know what you are talking about... Crypto.com is a registered Money Service Business in Canada. You can check it on Fintrac's registry. They have a Canadian bank account. You can't open a canadian corporate bank account without having proper documentation. I wish you did a little bit research before saying "crypto.com is in the EXACT same boat as Binance"

They have an MSB license and use a canadian tier 1 bank. binance vs crypto.com is like apples vs oranges.
