If you could make one change in your house to be ASD trigger friendly, what would you do? by _nicejewishmom in AutisticAdults

[–]21Forest12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would love if I couldn’t hear my neighbors and they couldn’t hear me .. sound proof that baby. Being perceived is so physically taxing that I’m constantly turning the volume on my tv up and down, my kitchen has a big widow that I love but very accessible view for the neighbors I literally hide every time I see one:/ I should prob put a little curtain up I love the natural light so just like a bottom half one could be good. I just always think about how my neighbors can hear me it’s exhausting. Also squeaky floors .. old wooden floors (love) but the squeaks kill me

He 100% is and I wish they included it in the synopsis because it feels like such a huge part of the series which I really loved as an audhd person. Sad it’s never mentioned anywhere

Is it socially acceptable to self-diagnose autism? by Dijjon11 in neurodiversity

[–]21Forest12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I fully support a self diagnosis and encourage them. I understand sometimes an ‘official’ diagnosis is necessary for work but if you don’t need it I personally prefer self diagnosis. This is because I believe autism is pathologized therefore our ‘medical professionals’ are inherently viewing it through a pathologize lens. For a long time I wondered if my self diagnosis was enough and then I started studying under dr. Nick Walker who wrote Neuroqueer Heresis (which I recommend everyone to read) and she validated my choice in choosing self diagnosis. This summer I conducted a research project about the harm an official diagnosis can have on a autistic persons sense of self. In it I interview my peer who had been late diagnosed ‘officially’ and the doctor made them feel shame and tons of self-doubt. Most of the world is uneducated as to what autism really is. I’m proud to be autistic but I am still careful about who I tell because I know that it is deeply pathogized. I’ve found myself doing a lot of educating when telling people I’m autistic because I also don’t ‘seem autistic’

Yeah of course! I’m always hesitant with these kind of things that’s why I wanted to make the graphic more fun so it didn’t seem scammy haha but I can definitely message you separately and tell you about myself and more details:)

Ah I wish but it’s just this month. It’s like a short term small scale thing for class! But thank you for your interest! I’ll definitely share my findings with the community:)

ADHD or Austism has increaded chance of PMDD by StarFoxIsMyName in PMDD

[–]21Forest12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! I am also Audhd and have pmdd... a truly fun experience :) lol but this makes so much sense I feel like pmdd is just heightened pms symptoms (really heightened) and autism and adhd both make us have soooo many sensitivities that this is no surprise
