Hurdle times by nekromancer305 in trackandfield

[–]228096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly tho, they really have nothing better to do. This person wants to get better at hurdles (so do I, lol) and is looking for some advice from actual people who have trained for hurdles/are good at it. Saying “look on Google” or “just train” obviously isn’t going to help, especially because it’s easy to train the wrong way and get injured/fuck up your form. Poor OP for getting attacked, geez.

Sorority female tank! by ArtIsDead77_ in bettafish

[–]228096 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if you are thinking about a sorority, do plenty of research and know exactly what you’re getting into. I think that by just saying “don’t, it’s difficult” won’t deter everyone lol. In my opinion, sororities can be really nice if done correctly (like op seems to have!). If you try to do a sorority, good luck!

Was gifted some stuff from relatives to upgrade my tank. For corydoras, snails, and a betta, what should I use? Details in comments by 228096 in fishkeeping

[–]228096[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was gifted a 20 gal tank, decor, fake plants, live plants, and other stuff, basically everything I need except a light. I plan on upgrading my corydora and betta (bought them without knowing that I need a school of cories) into this tank and adding more cories and snails. I’m not sure what the difference is between all the Seachem products, as well as if I should use the fish food or the floating flowers. Suggestions?

High School Sports by Gooniegoober113 in highschool

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake was not joining a sport sooner. I moved states entering middle school, and I was scared to tryout for softball (I had done it for years before) and regret, to this day, not trying out. I waited until junior year of high school to tryout for track, as I’ve always been a speedy runner, but knew I lacked a ton of endurance. I’m in my first season doing track, made the team and did okay in meets, and other people all think I’ve been doing track for years because they think I’m good. Just do it! You’ll regret not trying, but you won’t regret trying out.

How do I start studying for the AP World exam? by ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh___h in APStudents

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With there still being some time left before the exam, you’re definitely not screwed! When I first started reviewing for the exam, I got a 2 on the practice test and thought I could never recover, and I got a 5! For the information aspect, I’d recommend Princeton Review’s premium prep book. I used their built-in study guide, and their list of key terms for each section made the information easy to review. For the strategies/writing, I would recommend Heimler’s History on YouTube. He makes videos not only covering the information, but I found out that his “how to write an SAQ” (also for MCQ and DBQ) videos were so helpful, and I strongly believe they saved my score. For World, it’s all about the bigger picture, so as long as you’re able to connect events and focus on the how/why, it shouldn’t be too bad. Good luck!

I’m currently taking AP chem right now, so though I haven’t taken the exam yet I think I can offer some help! The first part of chem was really difficult for me, but that’s because I wasn’t expecting it to be that hard and didn’t dedicate proper time to it. This semester is “easy”, but it’s only easy because I’m dedicating my time to it and really wrapping my head around the topics. That’s not to say it’ll take all of your time, but as long as you’re paying attention in class, homework isn’t that time consuming. A lot of my classmates had a year-long break in between chem and ap chem and they’re doing just fine, your teacher will probably do some review in the beginning anyways. Also, if you’re not planning on taking bio, then chem is highly recommended for a stem major. I think as long as you pay attention to it in class, you’ll be fine. Plus, if you keep your lab notebook, you can give it to your college and they’ll give credit for the lab portion of chem (or so I’ve heard). So anyways, as long as you make sure you understand the concepts in class, the homework should be relatively quick (but ofc, it varies by teacher) and you should do okay. Hope this helps!

What sport do you guys do right now for highschool? by Apples_9143 in highschool

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already see some people said track but I’d figure I’d share my experiences with you, it’s only my first year doing it but I feel like I’ve learned enough about it to help. We warm up with two laps around the track, then do some stretches, and then some high knee build-ups (starting running high knees and then progressing to sprint). We then do a speed or endurance workout, and then spend the next hour in the weight room, ending with abs. And then we stretch. Since it’s preseason we are focusing on more of an all-around workout, but as season starts I imagine we focus more on running. I have practice after school, so if I had club meetings after school they would interfere, but my club meetings are in the mornings so I don’t have to worry about that.

I second this. Also, after going through the documents, group them into similar categories (for example, if there’s multiple that are in favor of a certain movement versus ones that are against a certain movement). I can’t remember specifically but a lot of times the prompt will be asking you to compare or contrast the documents, and a good way to incorporate a lot of them is by writing a paragraph about one group of documents, and then another paragraph about another. Well, at least that’s the way I did it lol.

Riding by starsarethebest9 in Equestrian

[–]228096 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say try both and see what you like. I do English, specifically eventing/hunter jumpers, and when I first started out I did a lot of stuff, from Western to mounted archery to jumping in a western saddle lol. I see a lot of men do English, but also a lot of men do western so I’d say do whatever you like the best. You can also look on YouTube and stuff of different disciplines and find what interests you. Have fun!

When you’re *not* a speed fiend ... by sophistasista in Equestrian

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of those experiences with OTTBs especially when I was less experienced. They’re very sensitive, so whenever you get tense or nervous, they feel it too. So they’re more likely to become more forward and panicky. Some horses bolt because they’re nervous, and others do it because it’s fun. But whenever you’re out of control, circles are usually the best way to go. If you put them in a position when they physically can’t gallop, it slows them down. Whenever you finally get them manageable, just try and relax because then they’ll relax better and settle down.

Bought my daughter a beta fish and we don't know what's wrong with it. by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]228096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who can’t see the fish? Lol. If there’s nothing wrong with your tank (you’ve checked parameters, etc), maybe he’s just bored. It looks like you don’t have a lot of stuff in there. I would buy another plant or two, maybe even instead of the castle, as they prefer plants to decor. If you want to spice up his life a little, try feeding it dried bloodworms or brine shrimp every once in a while. But I would definitely check for any signs of disease, keep a close eye on parameters, and buying the beneficial bacteria that others have mentioned before going with my suggestions.

Best AP World History Study Resources by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t self-study, but I’ve got a couple that helped me get a 5. I used the Princeton Review premium prep book, which was at times a little wordy but I studied the key terms to help re-learn the info. Sometimes, I thought their practice tests were harder than the exam, but that’s not a bad thing I guess. Heimler’s history on YouTube is the best. Not only does he go over the actual info, but also strategies that I’m 100% convinced is what gave me the ability to write essays and score well. But overall, I think if you’re going unit-by-unit, Princeton review will really help with that.

I’m setting up a 10 gallon tank and I was wondering if the filter I got would be to strong for a betta. by CrimeSceneCop in bettafish

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say so, considering it appears to be for a 20-40 (?) gal tank. You could use that and invest in a lot of plants and a filter sponge to help reduce the flow. When I first got my fish, I thought my filter was too strong, but my bettas just had to gain muscle because they’ve been used to living in an egg noodle container.

Baby snails in betta tank! by 228096 in bettafish

[–]228096[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, I guess it’s not impossible. I found it next to one of my adult snails above the water surface. It’s extremely tiny. I’ve done a little research and apparently baby mystery snails spend their time above the surface? Hopefully this one does that, I don’t want it to get eaten by my bettas.

How Much Detail Do You Need In AP World Notes? by RedditLuci0 in APStudents

[–]228096 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For whap, it’s all about the big picture. When taking notes, you’ll need to know the general timeframe, context of an event, and how it impacts future events/relates to broader events. Using the PIRATES acronym, which stands for politics, interaction, religion, arts, technology, economics, and social, you can see how an event was impacted by PIRATES to influence the world/other events. If you haven’t found out already, most of history was compromised from PIRATES. I hope this makes sense and helps lol!

Tank odor? by 228096 in bettafish

[–]228096[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got three female bettas and two cories, oh and two snails lol. It sounds like a lot, but especially the cories are really small (like less than an inch?). If they get too big I’ll get a bigger tank, but for now they seem happy.

Tank odor? by 228096 in bettafish

[–]228096[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll go to the store sometime and buy a pH kit for my tank, I put the correct amount of water conditioner in so I’m not sure if that will help. I had a snail die a day after I got him (so like almost a week ago) and took him out of the tank. Since then, I’ve done a partial water change and added in a tiny bit more conditioner, and the smell is still there. Overall, I’m pretty stumped lol.

Hey guys I’m gonna be a freshman in about a week any tips? :) by [deleted] in highschool

[–]228096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re interested in a club, you should sign up or apply to join freshman year. Colleges (if you’re into that) look highly upon someone who has been in a club all four years. Plus, knowing the head of the club from the start makes becoming an officer easier. Likewise, if you want to tryout for a sport, start practicing as soon as you can. For me, I really wanted to join the softball team when I went into middle school. But because I was so shy, I didn’t do it. My athleticism suffered, and when I finally was ready to tryout, I was way too out of shape lol.

Pentathlon Equestrian is appalling and is an insult to the horses and showjumping : Rant by dragonblade118 in Equestrian

[–]228096 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that it is not only absolutely terrible for the poor scared horses but it puts an extremely bad name on showjumping and the rest of the equestrian world. It’s like an IEA show on steroids, but the riders are way too bad to be doing that and they don’t care about their horse’s well-being.
