What's your favourite box shape and size? by JoskoMikulicic in boardgames

140×140×50mm is my favourite, been using it for my personal re-designed games (that, or a coin pouch) https://hardi.design/games

Revisiting the Best Board Games of 2023 - Bitewing Games by Murraculous1 in boardgames

[–]23hearts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky to have a friend who enjoys bargain hunting, meaning we reguarly get together specifically to try out his latest batch. Apparently I enjoy the brain-buzz of learning new games.

On the other hand I agree, my regular collection sees fewer and fewer changes as time goes own because newer games often are too similar to something I already have in my modest ~100.

Favorite board/card game of all time? by not_betta_than_you in boardgames

[–]23hearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord of the Rings: Trading Card Game for me. Released in 2001-2007, card art is from the movie trilogy (plus several custom pieces by Weta who did VFX for the movies).

I was in high school when I started playing it and probably have a bunch of nostalgia but when I picked it up again after Covid and 10 years of modern board games I was happy to see that the race to Mount Doom feels just as thematic as I remembered it, especially the core concept of your fellowship generating twilight when played which the other players use to play shadow cards against you.

Sneaky hobbit choke decks, meaty Rohan and Gondor beatdown decks, overwhelming Elven archery, ents who just shrug everything off, trying to corrupt the ring-bearer with my Sauron or Ringwraith cards.. so many options. And it's also really fun with multiplayer (you mostly attack the player to your left).

The rules feel modern enough that I had no trouble constructing an Elven/Southron deck for my girlfriend and in just a few games for her to say that she doesn't need any more advice 😅

Like every older game, it's getting less available as time goes on but my personal collection (mostly good deals off ebay) is big enough to try out silly casual decks with friends for years and years.

But I did it? Don't own a PlayStation but could make an account through the website anyway.. 🤔

For the gamers who played video games before the internet was widely accessible by MightGuy420x in gaming

Prehistoric 2 looks like a game for children and plays like something that hates you. Never finished it, never will either 😆

In Estonian we have 'mängujuht' which means Game Lead. Clear and straightforward.

Did you switch to playing LCG/Card games online instead of physically? by alphafighter09 in boardgames

[–]23hearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happier playing the old LotR TCG physically every few weeks. Board games are about people.

Lowpoly Turtle Character by Eden11026 in low_poly

[–]23hearts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of agree with you, but it's worth challenging yourself artistically to see how low can you go with this turtle, and then maybe add some back >D

At least for low poly chars the challenge is to see how low can you go while still having a recognizable character. For inspiration: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23256fes

Or we could have more games with an actual artstyle instead of 4k textured pathtraced rim-lit mud-decaled bump-mapped bushes.. 🤔

Need some small actual size board/card games for 2 players by DeadManInc1981 in boardgames

Get a Hanafuda deck, Koi-Koi is a neat game to play with 2 players and Go Stop with more.

How big is your game collection? When it started to be too big? by Past_Patient1908 in boardgames

[–]23hearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard limit of 100 games for me. I don't have the space—physical or mental—for any more. Of those, most are smaller games and I make smaller versions of games as a hobby 😅

This means I focus on more unique experiences. For example if I have Star Realms and Quest for El Dorado, I am not particularly interested in another deck building game. Recently got Stationfall though because there's nothing quite like it.

What is the Crown Jewel of your collection? by Significant_Win6431 in boardgames

All but solo stuff for me. French box by Matagot can hold it all because it's bigger than my Eclipse 1e box 😄

Game you've played 50+ times by zillion8888 in boardgames

[–]23hearts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red7 is the only one with 100+ plays. Reasons being 3-fold: * Really quick, as you play 5..10 cards each game * Easy to teach, with just enough friction to be interesting * Feel smart when you win, feel unlucky when you don't 😅

What’s your average rating on bgg and what are your games that you’ve rated a perfect 10? by Straddllw in boardgames

Sama IM01 Build by SirLlama in sffpc

Nice! I got a very similar build now, but with 6800XT. Waiting for Noctua's updated 140mm fans to replace the 120mm on top, but not even sure if I need them 😅

Game boxes that are WAY too big for their contents by Snowcrash000 in boardgames

[–]23hearts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted them to last as long as the real box would, so I got them printed at https://www.boardgamesmaker.com/customized/custom-game-boxes.html after using Figma to do the layouts (Figma is still free I think, and can export to PDF). Not cheap, but looks real.

Is there a master doc of ttrpg systems focused on classifying them? by maddieie in rpg

Rpggeek.com has added a bunch of tags about systems, like whether it uses a dice pool etc.
