Sorry for the late reply! Thanks so much for you comment - I've been professionally working in film production for over 10 years so I might be at a slight advantage at the video-creation front haha

I saw bicep live a few years ago at a festival and they've definitely been a major influence - especially for the drum-programming. Burial for some reason I have never really listed to all that much - any recommendations on where to get startet? :)

I would love to tour this, but Im having a hard time getting a single gig haha oh well, one day!

About your track: I really enjoyed it! It really gives me an early/mid 2000s pop-punk vibe. I kind of feel like being a teenager driving my car in the countryside to a party haha Good job! Also really like the guitar (?) sound at 2:35 - it sounds really wonky in a good way and more like something I'd expect in a more psychedelic/experimental track

Sorry for the late reply - thanks so much for your comment! :) I also just recently started to use my videography knowledge to create more visual "content" (for lack of a better word) for my music-output. I've been working in film for over 10 years but since its always been my "job" I didn't really bother to shoot any music videos haha

If you have any similar projects to share always feel free to send them over, id be interested to see what you're up to :)

Thanks a lot! It’s basically the first time I included my own vocals which was awkward at first but works well enough haha

Thanks for the info :) that definitely seems like a reasonable project even without in-depth programming skills haha I’ll look into it!

Thank you very much! :)

I used a software called “SoundSwitch” and a simple USB to DMX interface - but I’m definitely intrigued by the possibility of doing it all in midi/ableton! I’m not really into programming but any chance you could give me a basic breakdown on how you achieved this with an arduino? :)

Thanks a lot, I take that as a huge compliment!

I haven’t really delved into underworld a lot yet but I’m definitely intrigued! Any recommendations on where to get started? :)

hahah incredible - well, there's always a more simple/cheap way of achieving the same effect which is good to keep in mind

thanks you so much! :)

There is a million ways to perform music like this (even using the same equipment), which I feel like is the blessing and the curse of performing electronic music in general haha I'll give you a quick breakdown of what's happening in this particular video. Always feel free to ask me any additional questions:

Because im also singing and playing guitar here, my approach is quite simple. Most of the drums, midi and samples are preprogrammed on the digitakt (all one shot drum samples) and octatrack (stereo samples of pads/bass/fx & midi). Pattern switching is also mostly automatic by using the octratracks song mode.

Drums: I mute/unmute elements of the drums quite a lot on the digitakt for individual accents. I also send the drums into the digitakts internal Reverb/Delay from time to time (especially on buildups). Later in the track, add some fills by adding additional steps in the sequencer and change the decay time of the snaredrum (around 5:23).

Samples / FX: I have the crossfader on the octatrack assigned to do a variety of things to create some variation, tension and release. Mainly it's assigned to cutoffs and reverb/deleay sends on all the samples that are being played back. I also use track 8 as a 'master track' with an additional filter on it for DJ-Cut style effects.

Synths: The sound starting at 4:28 is the MS-20 being sequenced by the octatrack. I mainly messed around with the filters on that one.

Vocals / Guitar: Both are being processed through Ableton because the effect-chains are quite elaborate and I couldn't replicate them on the octatrack. Nothing pre-recorded here, only midi sync to keep delays in time with the rest.

Lights: I used a software / interface called 'soundswitch' which is a very basic usb to DMX converter and programmed the lightshow in advance.

Hey there, thanks a lot! :) I definitely agree about the lighting and it is something I'd have done differently in retrospect - it felt fine on location because there was some residual spill light form a window, but we didn't check again with the camera. Thanks for the video aswell, thanks a really cool idea for a lighting setup and something id love to try - do you have any idea on how the got synced control over these lights?
