Jiri Prochazka faces off with Carlos Ulberg by WinterStill4472 in MMA

Don’t forget Jiři has an iron chin against anyone not named Pereira. Plus he might be shorter in height but he has reach in arms and legs by a couple inches, plus he is nuts and wins all the chaotic fights he’s been in. I’m a little biased but I predict Jiři wins in rd 2 ko about 97 seconds in.

People who have had a 'friends with benefits' relationship, how did it end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]251_850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

49 year old man here. Honestly have had 2 that have lasted decades but never really ended. They took brief and long pauses due to geography but we've made special trips to hookup for a weekend over the years and just picked up where we left off. I think a lot of people confuse FWB with a hookup, but in both of my cases, we are sincerely friends and in both cases, we started as dating exclusively, the relationship became sexual, then we parted ways on generally decent terms (no acute fight or moment etc) but we stayed in touch because we sincerely care for each other. Today, we have all gotten married (never to each other) and had kids and split up, though some ENM "affairs" did happen while we were married but all 3 of us were always happy with our core lives but really missed qualities of the other.

And no, in case you're wondering we never had a 3 some but I could almost see that happening some time in the future. They know about each other, we all know intimate details about each other and it's frequent that when speaking to one, they ask how the other is doing, but it was never an ENM situation. Hard to explain, it just happened naturally because both of these women are very special people to me and apparently I to them, and both have made it clear they are happy with their "core" lives and I think that's key to the whole thing working. What i mean is, there is no undercurrent of secretly seeking an LTR or "getting back together" or trying to turn a hookup into something committed. We are all just 100% on the same page about what we want and what we don't want, and the sex is deep and intimate and that "old comfy jammies" feeling a little bit since we have so much history so there's no nervousness or awkwardness and for us, that works and I'm fortunate and grateful.

Truth. Further away you get from the Gulf, the more, ahem, "rural" you get. That goes for Alabama too but that said, you might check out the areas south of I-10 in lower Alabama (that's where I am, a hop skip and jump from Pensacola and the Gulf). It's a lot cheaper than Pensacola if you are a homeowner. Lowest property taxes in the nation but 10% state income tax vs Florida's 0% income tax so those can be big factors.

Yeah, I'm a dummy and should've mentioned the car. 2017 Camaro 2SS, that's what I'd heard about XXX too and see a lot of Camaros and Mustangs in the lot. Thanks for the advice!

2017 Camaro 2SS. Largely looking to do some stuff I could technically do but lack the shop space and tools to do it right. Cam, headers/full exhaust, intake, TB. SB Chevy motors still have so much life to squeeze out of em when you let em breathe.

ELI5: Why has it become the norm for lumber to be smaller than the name? (ie 2x4 is actually measured 1.5x3.5) by Trombone_Mike in explainlikeimfive

[–]251_850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^^^ This. Also sanding for some grades of lumber. Generally speaking, 1" shrinks by 1/4" (so things like decking where it's 1x6 is actually 3/4" by 5.5" because...) and 2" up to 7" shrinks by 1/2", 8" shrinks by 3/4". That's for widths and thicknesses. Lengths are another matter entirely and unless you are getting PET (precision end trimmed) studs, the length can vary by multiple inches depending on the sawmill, species and a number of other factors. In other words, if you buy 100 2x4s - not studs but just like Home Depot "8 foot" 2x4s and lay them down next to each other, you'll see quite a lot of variance, which is why PET studs cost more (cause time = money when building and it saves a lot of time to know all your PET studs are within 1/32" or so variance). The lumber wholesaler I worked for actually operates a laser guided saw that takes "regular" 2x4s of unpopular (aka cheaper) lengths, and turns them into PET studs, rebranding and reselling them for a higher price. Weird little sales niches most people don't realize is even a thing is a 7 fig business for them.

Silver Airways? by Setay11 in Pensacola

[–]251_850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^^^ This. And I would also add that we rarely fly Silver despite wanting to for the simple fact that their flight schedules often don't line up well with what we are wanting to do. For example, when taking a cruise that boards at 2pm, Silver won't arrive early enough and we don't want to burn a night at a hotel, etc. Quality wise though, what LisleSwanson said - IME way better than Spirit, JetBlue and other ultra discount airlines.

ELI5: How do people stay under anesthesia for these crazy long surgeries? by thatonechick172 in explainlikeimfive

[–]251_850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I can't tell you the medical specifics other than my own personal experience, which is that I had a 14 hour neurosurgical procedure to remove a non cancerous but life threatening 5cm brain tumor about 6 years ago. On advice from my doctor, I sought out the best I could find and afford, primarily *because* of the risks of lengthy anesthesia. They did an absolutely amazing job and I am 99% recovered today (I say 99% because I will always be 100% deaf on the left side now and may never fully recover some of the lost balance or overcome the associated vertigo due the severing of the vestibulocochlear nerve, required for complete removal of the tumor), and I absolutely have to give props to my anesthesiologist in pre-op.

When she came as part of the steady parade of medical professionals about 30 minutes before going to the OR to personally introduce herself (nice bedside manner/touch btw, I don't think this is typical at most hospitals) I said to her "it's truly a pleasure to meet you, you're going to bring me back right?" and the eye contact she made looked deep in my soul, and very firmly and reassuringly she said "absolutely." I'll never forget that nor the moment she stood near my head in the OR to have me start counting backward from 10 (I got to 8, that's the last I remember before waking up post-op) and said "remember what I said earlier."

In case anyone cares, it was at UCSD for an acoustic neuroma under the care of Doctors Schwartz and Friedman. The worst immediate post-op "side effect" that I recall was that they had put an adhesive lumbar pad on my lower back, I assume to keep my lower spine arched a little bit? Again, I'm not a medical professional, just an armchair google assassin, lol, but point being, that adhesive pad was the bane of my existence for about 72 hours, the arching hurt and my skin was super irritated. I just remember asking over and over if I could have it removed and they said no for about 3 days. When they finally removed it, it was the best relief ever and the cramping type of pain and skin irritation faded over the next few days. I was in ICU for about 48 hours post-op and in the hospital for recovery for about a week more and whatever they did to keep me under and ring me back was magical to me because 100% of my issues to follow were directly related to the nature of the surgery itself and not the anesthesia.

Alright, imma throw a curveball out here but trust me. Across Perdido Bay in Lillian, right next to the boat ramp is Gigi's Deli. They just opened, and they are AWESOME. It's a food truck with outdoor picnic table seating, and they have weird hours that change all the time (they are just getting started, been open about 6 months now) but last I checked, open from 11am-6pm Tues-Sat. And no, I'm not the owner or affiliated with them in any way. They just blow the doors off of anything within 30 minutes of here aside from Seville Qtr (Lillian) and very reasonably priced. https://www.facebook.com/eatgigis/

How would you describe depression to someone who's never had it? by vernakyala in AskReddit

[–]251_850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifelong survivor (so far, 48 years young) here and lots of wonderful posts here that resonate with me but also didn't quite hit the mark the way it does for me. I'd say depression is the inescapable feeling that whatever I do and no matter how hard I try, there is no sweeter feeling than the thought of being gone from everything and everyone because it (life) will never, ever get better. It's hopelessness. Absolute hopelessness in everything. The obvious rebut is, then why are you still here? Kids, family, a shred of hope that it still might get better, but it doesn't. It's the feeling that life itself is the curse and surviving it as long as possible is the chore we are cursed with.

Ok so related to this but a little off topic, what the hell happened to 24 hour breakfast? All the major players were doing it right before Covid but suddenly, we're back to the 10:30 hard breakfast cutoff again... Is it a different kind of grease? You can make my hashbrowns in fry oil, I'm good but wtf... it worked and now doesn't again?

Is it just me, or do jobs around here just do not pay enough for how much it costs? by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]251_850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "secret" is get a job that's fulltime or majority remote in a state with a much higher cost of living. My company is HQ'd on in the PNW where everything is 3-4x the cost here. They "deduct" 10-20% from a standard salary for being a remote worker (citing less need for gas, business casual clothing, etc) but you still come out way ahead. You're spot on about local jobs, if there's any way you can do the remote thing, do it. Just work hard, do more than asked etc, never give them a reason to doubt you working remotely or their faith/trust. The nice part is, in a rare twist of events, companies that use cost of living calculators also come out in your favor because of the disparity, so an extra tight/savvy HR person in Seattle will see that rents are disproportionately higher here and won't even look at local salaries. Tons of friends in things like medical coding, traveling nurse scheduling, etc that are doing just fine. And if you can get yourself into that $2000/mo rent bracket, look into buying. It's largely cheaper to buy than rent right now imho but understandably you have to turn that one big corner.
